As a seasoned gamer of reality television shows, I must say that the fifth season of Outrageous Pumpkins has certainly piqued my interest with its all-star format. Being a connoisseur of carving competitions, it’s always exciting to see the best of the best go head-to-head in creative showdowns.
This weekend just gone saw the premiere of the fifth season of “Outrageous Pumpkins” on Food Network, and it has a unique spin. For this season, they’ve gathered some of the best contestants, making it an “all-star” edition. It appears that all of Food Network’s Halloween shows for this year are following this theme.
14 outstanding woodcarvers from across the nation are going to be split into 7 groups and vie for an opportunity to claim a prize of $50,000. Once again, Damaris Phillips will take on the role of host, with Terri Hardin serving as judge, and Deane Arnold joining as a guest evaluator.
To start off, teams must create their assigned horrifying scene for the initial task, utilizing no less than twenty pumpkins. As a surprise element later on, they will be required to incorporate at least three jack-o-lanterns into their setup as well.
In a close final round, it was between Rebecca and James, and Daniel and William. The judges selected Rebecca and James as the winning team first, primarily because of their outstanding portrayal of “falling.” In their work, they designed a man who had a fondness for tossing pumpkins from rooftops, only to plummet off one himself into a colossal pumpkin mouth.
In terms of the final two pairs, it boiled down to Brandy/Taylor versus Danny/Ethan. The reason for Brandy/Taylor was their zombie creation seemed less refined than expected, while Danny/Ethan’s vampire with decaying teeth appeared underdeveloped in sculpting. In an unexpected turn of events, the judges announced that no one would be sent home this week! However, this is a unique instance where nobody will be eliminated.
Next week, I’ll need to up my game significantly since Rebecca/James is set to gain a substantial edge. It looks like the stakes are getting higher, and one of us might be leaving the competition soon.
