Outrage over Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen’s LSD exchange with DJ Diplo live on ‘Kids are watching!’
As a mother of three, who has spent countless New Year’s Eves watching the ball drop with my family, I find it disheartening and disappointing to see the behavior exhibited by Andy Cohen, Anderson Cooper, and Diplo during their live NYE interview.
In my day, we didn’t have hosts giggling like schoolgirls on national television and discussing the use of illegal substances casually over the airwaves. Back in my time, we saved our wild tales for the backyard bonfire after the kids were asleep!
It seems that today’s TV hosts are more concerned with being “unhinged” than providing a family-friendly celebration. I can only imagine what kind of conversations I might have overheard at the water cooler if my colleagues had behaved in such a manner back in my day.
On a lighter note, I guess it’s good to know that there are still some folks out there who can run a marathon while under the influence of LSD – maybe they could teach my kids a thing or two about focus and determination! (Just kidding, kids!)
Fans were upset when Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper made a joke about LSD during an unusually lively New Year’s Eve interview with DJ Diplo on Tuesday, causing a stir among viewers.
Cohen, aged 56, and Cooper, aged 57, were conversing with an LA-based producer, who was 46, for CNN. During their conversation, he confessed to having experimented with a hallucinogenic substance, causing much laughter among the hosts but drawing criticism from viewers regarding this unexpected revelation during the nighttime broadcast.
Intrigued, I found myself inquiring of Diplo, “I’ve been wondering… what seems to be the most traditional spot where you’ve experienced an LSD trip?
A bemused Diplo responded: ‘Right now. I did some on the helicopter on the way here.’
Later, the star described his experience as a “brief journey with light,” explaining that he had been experimenting with small amounts of LSD, but might have accidentally taken a larger dose earlier in the day.
Cohen said: ‘Was it the LSD spray?’ to which Diplo responded: ‘No I got like the little droplets.’
Cohen initially said, “Shouldn’t we mention that it’s against the law?” To which Diplo replied, “Let’s just stop it,” and Cohen countered, “Stop it? This is a live broadcast!
Later on, Cohen confided to Cooper: ‘If only I were Diplo, I must admit. I truly admire his lively, trendy lifestyle. Don’t you think about what his life might be like? ‘I’m Diplo. I live my life.”
He later quipped to the audience: ‘We don’t recommend this at home.’
Spectators, together with their loved ones, expressed their disapproval on social platforms, with one comment saying: “Absolutely. Let’s find amusement and chuckles while normalizing drug use on live television. Such a foolish network.
‘Gone are the days where you could watch this with your family. Sick.’
Another typed: ‘Bro really, kids watching and @andersoncooper making a fool of himself drinking.’
I recall a period when confessing to using illegal substances during an interview would lead to an uncomfortable situation. To me, such matters are far from amusing. Perhaps some individuals find humor in them due to their own disregard for the devastation these drugs can bring about in people’s lives. As someone who has witnessed the negative impact of drug abuse on those close to me, I can attest to its seriousness and the need for responsible discussion surrounding this topic.
I’ve had the unfortunate encounter with the law due to my past involvement with LSD, a potent and highly illegal substance. If caught again, I could face further investigation for criminal activities related to it. It’s disheartening to see two popular television hosts making light of such a serious matter, as I know firsthand the potential consequences that come with using or dealing with illegal substances.
‘CNN is lost’
It seems Whitney Cummings considers Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper as being the most inappropriate hosts, implying they behave similarly according to her. On New Year’s Eve, their behavior on national television is often seen as entitled and giggly, which some people, including myself, find strange and unprofessional. Is this viewpoint shared by others?
‘Um…. Who’s going to remind Diplo that he admitted to using an illegal drug on live television?
Others praised the interview writing: ‘I love how lit they get on camera every year same day lol.’
1. ‘Anderson’s fit of laughter is literally taking my breath away. Ha-ha.’
2. ‘I must say, Diplo just seems so relaxed, even in that part – it’s quite impressive.’
3. ‘If every TV show were as wild and unconventional as this one, I’d be glued to the screen all day.’
According to California’s legislation, LSD falls under the category of Schedule I psychedelic drugs and it is unlawful to consume microdoses of this substance.
Back in March 2023, the star revealed he had run the LA marathon while on LSD.
In a summary video, Diplo was seen putting multiple LSD drops into his water bottle prior to the competition.
He said: ‘I think you need like, four drops of LSD.’
He commented on his LSD usage during the marathon in his chat with Cohen and Cooper.
‘It makes your mind and body worker faster… it’s a little hack.’
‘I think it’s illegal in the Olympics though.’
