Outlander’s Sam Heughan warns fans not to trust scammers impersonating him
As a devoted fan of Outlander, I’ve been captivated by this extraordinary series for years, and it’s heartbreaking to hear about fans being scammed. Sam Heughan’s warning is a necessary reminder that even though we might want to believe, we must always be vigilant. It’s sad that someone would take advantage of the passion we have for this show. But hey, if anyone ever claims to be Richard Rankin, I guess it’s worth a second look!
Previously, there was a widely shared incident involving an ardent fan of the series “Outlander,” who was swindled out of approximately $13,000 and her engagement ring by an individual posing as Sam Heughan, the actor portraying Jamie Fraser in Starz’s time-traveling romance drama. Heughan has previously advised fans to stay vigilant against such scams, which have been prevalent; it seems that impersonating Heughan is a common strategy. This week, on his Instagram Story, he warned fans, “Be cautious on social media. There are numerous scammers.” According to The Daily Record, he wrote this message. “I will never contact or message on Instagram/Twitter/WhatsApp/Google hangout/etc, or ask for money. If it’s not verified, it’s not me. Neither will my agent, family, publicist, or Telegram!
Heughan has posted this same message in years past, but with new episodes of Outlander coming out later this month, it bears repeating. He also shared a screenshot of a message from a scammer calling themselves Sebrina. “Hello, It is an honor to reach out to you on behalf of Sir Sam Heughan, who has personally recognized your exceptional dedication and enthusiasm as a fan,” the message reads. “As a gesture of his sincere appreciation for your unwavering support, he is extending to you a rare and meaningful opportunity to engage in a personal dialogue with him.” Obviously, the scammer wanted the mark to act “as soon as possible” and ended by thanking them for “your longstanding support, “which means so much to both Sir Sam Heughan and the entire team.”
Sam cleverly wrote the word “FALSE” on top of the screenshot, remarking, “Not particularly intelligent…
Richard Rankin (Roger) thinks fans will “love” the second half of Outlander season 7
In case you receive a message supposedly from Sam Heughan, I must caution you – it’s likely a hoax. However, if the message comes from Richard Rankin, the talented actor portraying Jamie’s son-in-law Roger, then rest assured, it’s most probably the real deal.
Indeed, it’s clear that he did. As for Rankin, he opened up to TV Insider about concluding the eighth and last season of Outlander, a series that has occupied a significant portion of his life for nearly a decade. “It was an integral part of our lives,” he admitted. “We didn’t fully realize its impact until it was gone. Now that it’s vanished, there’s a peculiar emptiness. It feels odd. It’s as if a piece of us is absent. I don’t believe the reality has set in for most of us yet because we always returned to it. But now, it won’t be there anymore. It will create a void, one we’ll likely feel. It opens up possibilities for new experiences. To avoid sounding trite, it truly does mark a fresh chapter in my life. We filmed that show for nine or ten months each year, sometimes the entire year. That leaves little time for other pursuits. Perhaps short series or stage work, but primarily we were tied to that show. There’s no prospect of embarking on another major project.
We can save discussing the eighth season for another day; currently, the focus lies on the second half of season 7, set to air on Starz this coming Friday, November 22. According to Rankin, the second half is some of the best “Outlander” has ever produced. He believes there’s a lot happening and all storylines will take characters on grand adventures that fans are going to adore.
