Outlander star teases “hope” for Jane and William’s future

As a seasoned Outlander fan who has witnessed the complexities and intricacies of the show’s characters unfold over time, I must say that Jane Pocock’s journey thus far has been nothing short of captivating. Silvia Presente’s portrayal of this resilient woman, forced to sell herself for survival, is both heart-wrenching and inspiring. The recent development between her character and William Ransom offers a glimmer of hope in Jane’s otherwise bleak existence.

Having seen countless characters come and go on the show, I can attest that William’s vulnerability and kindness towards Jane is a breath of fresh air. It’s not often that we see a character like William, who genuinely cares for another person without any ulterior motives. The way he ensures Jane gets a good night’s sleep instead of exploiting her is truly remarkable and serves as a testament to his compassionate nature.

In the past, I have seen characters on Outlander offer protection or assistance only to turn out to be villains or deceitful individuals. However, I believe that William could potentially be different for Jane – a beacon of hope in her otherwise dark world. His actions towards Jane remind me of the old saying: “You can judge a man’s true character by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.”

In the latest episode, ‘Ye Dinna Get Used to It,’ we saw Jane seek William’s protection after killing Captain Harkness. I found it intriguing that in her moment of need, she turned to William instead of someone else. This speaks volumes about their growing bond and the trust that Jane has placed in him.

All in all, the development between Jane and William is a refreshing addition to Outlander’s storyline, and I eagerly await their future interactions. As for my joke, I guess you could say that Jane’s hope for mankind is slowly but surely being restored – one good man at a time!

Fresh face Silvia Presente, joining the Outlander cast, hints at potential development for her character Jane Pocock, as she strengthens her bond with William Ransom.

Previously recognized as Arabella, Jane now finds herself in a difficult situation where she must sleep with men for financial survival, alongside her sister Fanny. In the seventh season, part 2 of the show, William (Charles Vandervaart) demonstrates kindness by ensuring she gets a peaceful night’s rest instead of taking advantage of her situation during a tender, heartfelt moment between them.

At first, when she encounters William, she considers him to be slightly innocent and uninformed, much like many of her previous clients, as stated by Presente in an interview with TVLine.

The second round we crossed paths, his openness and sincerity, giving me a peaceful, undisturbed slumber, stirred something within me I hadn’t felt before. I couldn’t help but notice it.” (First-person perspective of the character who is experiencing this situation)

What she finds unfamiliar seems to stir in her the thought that humanity still has a chance, however grim it might sound. [Laughter] I believe he represents, perhaps, the initial spark of optimism for Jane.

In the story ‘Ye Dinna Get Used to It’, Jane turns to William for safety following an unfortunate event. She had inadvertently taken the life of Captain Harkness, a man who demanded intimacy with Fanny – a minor girl.

In difficult times, she instinctively turns to William, as he’s less prone to criticism and judgement, having shared a deeply personal and exposed moment with him. She clarified this point.

Outlander airs on Starz in the US, and streams via MGM+ on Prime Video Channels in the UK.
