Outlander star Caitríona Balfe’s “exhilarating” British thriller lands new UK streaming home

Okay, so I just found out where I can finally watch The Cut! It’s a pretty intense British thriller with Caitríona Balfe – you might know her from Outlander. It’s directed by Sean Ellis, and Orlando Bloom plays this Irish boxer nicknamed “The Wolf of Dublin.” Sounds like a wild ride!

The boxer returned from retirement and won a championship, but to stay in shape, his coach, Boz (John Turturro), put him on a very unusual diet and training plan.

As Bloom struggles to lose weight, his wife, Caitlin (Balfe), worries as his efforts become increasingly extreme and all-consuming.

A once-great champion, broken by a devastating loss, attempts a comeback. But his relentless training turns into an all-consuming obsession, blurring the line between reality and something much darker and more frightening.

You can now watch The Cut, a film by Justin Bull, on Sky Cinema and NOW if you have a Cinema membership.

The movie The Cut, which came out in UK cinemas last year, was well-received by critics and currently has a 69% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 54 reviews.

According to NYC Movie Guru, the film is a thrilling sports drama that delves into the minds of its characters. While the movie isn’t groundbreaking and its themes are fairly obvious, it showcases Orlando Bloom at his best, alongside a strong performance from John Turturro.

According to The New York Times, Orlando Bloom delivers a wild and intense performance, and John Turturro creates a truly scary character by refusing to make his villain even remotely likable. He doesn’t try to win the audience over at all.

I was really struck by the intimate scenes between the two main characters – the movie starts and ends with them, and Orlando Bloom and Caitríona Balfe both delivered such subtle, beautiful performances. That’s what The Wrap pointed out, and I totally agree!

According to Radio Times, Orlando Bloom’s performance is physically strong, but he doesn’t fully capture the character’s inner life. However, they admit it’s still a captivating, if somewhat bleak, portrayal.

Although many people loved the film, opinions varied. In a review for The Guardian, critic Sean Ellis noted that the film became increasingly cliché and could have been improved with tighter editing.

The Cut is now available to stream on Sky Cinema/NOW.
