Outlander Season 7’s Faith Twist: Will It Matter in Season 8?

The seventh season of Outlander concluded with a captivating surprise, yet I find myself wishing that it won’t be just another setup for season 8. As the romantic saga prepares to wrap up in its final season, the intriguing possibility that Faith Fraser may have survived could potentially mark Outlander’s last major plot twist. I certainly don’t want this to lead nowhere. Such a suspenseful ending should undeniably be resolved in the upcoming episodes. Nevertheless, the significant change in Jamie and Claire’s narrative following the shocking revelation from season 7 might not serve the series optimally in its entirety.

In the second season of ‘Outlander’, Faith Fraser was born still, an event that appeared genuine at the time. However, during the finale of season 7, hints started to surface suggesting things might not be as they seemed. Initially, Claire had a dream featuring Master Raymond, who expressed remorse for something he would soon reveal to Claire. Later, Claire found out that Fanny Pocock’s mother was named Faith. It seems likely that Master Raymond revived Faith without Claire’s awareness. If this is true, what might we expect for season 8? Could Claire possibly reunite with Faith? Will there be episodes delving into Faith’s past and the exact events leading to her disappearance through flashbacks?

Although there’s plenty of potential for ‘Outlander’ season 8, I can’t help but express my hope that it won’t veer too far from the narrative in the upcoming episodes. Author Diana Gabaldon has made it clear that Faith Fraser will not be resurrected, which means the show is now diverging from the original storyline. While this isn’t a problem given the incomplete nature of the books, I would dislike to see season 8 stray so dramatically from Claire’s book journey by reuniting her with Faith. Instead, it would be more satisfying if ‘Outlander’ season 8 utilized the season 7 twist as a bridge connecting the TV show to Claire’s next story in the books.

Why Outlander Would Reveal That Faith Lived (But Not Actually Bring Her Back)

A Big Faith Story Might Not Be The Point

It might be a letdown if Outlander season 7 revealed that Faith survived infancy, only for her character not to return in season 8, making the story feel incomplete. However, it would be advantageous in a way, as Claire’s suspicion that Faith had been revived after stillbirth could spark her curiosity to delve deeper into her healing abilities.

In the Outlander series, Claire has occasionally used her blue-light abilities, but her TV show counterpart seems to have forgotten that Master Raymond once told her she could heal magically. However, according to the books, as the Revolutionary War approaches Fraser’s Ridge, Claire will need greater control over her powers. If the Starz series follows this pattern in season 8, it means that Claire needs a spark of inspiration to delve deeper into her abilities before conflict erupts and her loved ones are endangered. Although Outlander season 7’s plot twist may not bring Claire back together with her daughter or delve into Faith’s life, it could still have a significant role to play.
