Outlander prequel Blood of My Blood is done filming 10-episode season

As a die-hard Outlander fan who has navigated through the highs and lows of this time-traveling romance series for years, I must say that the upcoming events have left me feeling like a mix of anticipation, nostalgia, and a tad bit of melancholy. The final season is on the horizon, and while it’s bittersweet to see our beloved story coming to an end, the announcement of the Outlander prequel, Blood of My Blood, has provided us with a glimmer of hope in these dark times known as Droughtlander.

Dear fellow enthusiasts of “Outlander”, after what feels like an eternity, the second part of season 7 is finally arriving in November, bringing an end to our lengthy wait. Though it seems endless, the conclusion is near, and we have just four more months left before this journey comes to a close.

With the finish of season 7, it’s clear that the beloved time-traveling romance series Outlander has only one more season left before wrapping up. This news brings a mix of emotions for fans, but there’s still some good news on the horizon! You might be aware that an Outlander prequel is in development, and there are some intriguing updates about its release date and the number of episodes planned for the initial season.

To begin with, you don’t need to wait for the final season of Outlander to watch its prequel series, as Blood of My Blood is scheduled to debut in 2025. This series will delve into the events that unfold before the romance of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe). Over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, executive producer Ronald D. Moore revealed that filming for the first season has been completed, and it is now in post-production, ready to be released next year. Moreover, Moore disclosed that the season will consist of 10 episodes.

Currently, some fans might be curious about the lower number, but let me clarify: This season is actually two episodes more extensive than the previous seasons of ‘Outlander’, so I’m quite satisfied with that!

The first season of Outlander prequel Blood of My Blood will be 10 episodes long

Moore explained that the decision to produce a 10-episode series was influenced by several factors. He added that these factors included the network’s preferences, scheduling considerations, budget constraints, and practical issues. He acknowledged that reaching this number involved a complex calculation.

Regardless of the number of episodes, we can hardly wait to explore the narrative centered on both Claire and Jamie’s parents. We don’t have many details yet, but it looks like the series will switch between two different timeframes; it remains unclear if there will be any element of time travel. Imagine the thrill of discovering whether Jamie and Claire shared a connection before they were even born! I’d absolutely adore witnessing that!

As a long-time fan of the Outlander series, I am beyond excited to see younger versions of beloved characters like Murtagh and members of the MacKenzie clan being brought back in the upcoming seasons. Having followed their fictional journey through the years, I can’t help but feel that this new perspective will breathe fresh life into the storyline and make the world even more captivating than it already is.

In the interim, here’s an Instagram post shared by Tony Curran, known for his role in “Blood of My Blood”, who will portray Jamie’s grandfather Simon Fraser. He captured a few photos with the “Outlander” cast members like Sam Heughan and Richard Rankin. Enjoy!
