Outlander officially wraps filming the eight-season long series
As a devoted Outlander fan, who has journeyed through time and space with the Frasers for what seems like an eternity, it feels as if my heart is being torn apart. The news that filming for the final season has wrapped is a bitter-sweet reminder of the impending end of this extraordinary saga.
Just as expected, the epic series Outlander has now concluded its run. This past week, the talented cast members shared on their social media platforms that they have completed filming for the eighth and last season.
For fans globally, this serves as a melancholic foreshadowing: although fresh episodes are upcoming, they mark the end of the series. It’s a bittersweet truth we must confront, but for now, let’s cherish and anticipate the impending new episodes.
The Outlander cast say goodbye
Actor Sam Heughan, who’s been heroically portraying Jamie Fraser for eight seasons in the show, shared a set of images on Instagram when production came to an end.
He talked about his experiences working on the set of Outlander for the past ten years, sharing emotions that resonated with everyone as he acknowledged the cast, crew, supporters, and of course, author Diana Gabaldon.
In unity to bid adieu, the cast teamed up with Starz and Sony, all contributing farewell posts across their social media platforms. Each actor, including Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) and Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser), were pictured holding the director’s clapperboard displaying the words “It’s a wrap!” as a symbolic end to production.
Upon a closer inspection of the area labeled as “Take,” each actor penned down their personal takeaways from the set. Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe both expressed a desire to keep everything, while Sophie Skelton bravely opted for a Mustang. Richard Rankin jokingly requested his dignity back, and John Hunter Bell asked for a Tomahawk and war club. The images continue, but the underlying message persists: the series will be deeply missed, and accepting its end is heart-wrenching.
Filming for season 8 of Outlander has come to an end about two months before the airing of season 7, part 2. We eagerly anticipate the events that transpire in the second half of season 7, particularly focusing on Roger’s journey through time to rescue their kidnapped son and exploring how Jamie, Claire, and Ian will adapt after arriving in Scotland.
This is a particularly uncertain period, with numerous uncertainties hanging over our heads: could Brianna join Amanda in her stone travel endeavor? Is it feasible? Will the TV series diverge significantly from the books? We’ve got a plethora of questions, and hopefully, in two months, some of these queries will be addressed when the second half of season 7 airs on Starz on November 22. The eighth and concluding season is expected to debut sometime afterwards.
Although the series is no longer being filmed, there are still plenty of episodes ahead for us to savor the final moments. Let’s put the finish line aside, focus on the present, and prepare ourselves for the delightful journey that the remaining episodes of Outlander will take us on!
