Fans of the hit Starz series finally know when the last season will arrive. The time-traveling romance, created by Ronald D. Moore, will end after its eighth season airs next year.
Starz has announced that the final season of Outlander will premiere on March 6, 2026. This comes over a year after the Season 7 finale aired in January 2025. Season 8 will wrap up the story of main characters Claire and Jamie Fraser, played by Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan. The series has received positive reviews, with a 90% rating from critics and an 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Outlander originally debuted on Starz in 2014.
As a huge fan of historical dramas, I’m completely hooked on Outlander. It’s about Claire Randall, a nurse from World War II, who unexpectedly finds herself thrown back in time to 1743 Scotland. To stay safe, she ends up marrying Jamie Fraser, a really compelling Scottish warrior, even though she’s already married to Frank, an MI6 officer, back in her own time. It’s a wild premise, and the show does a fantastic job of pulling you into both time periods and the complicated relationships.
Ahead of the new season, Starz has revealed what’s in store for Jamie and Claire. When they return to Fraser’s Ridge, they find it’s become a successful and growing community. But with new people and changes happening while they were gone, the Frasers must decide how much they’re willing to risk to protect their home – and their relationship. While they work together to face external threats, long-held family secrets begin to surface, potentially driving them apart. Even though they’ve left the American Revolution behind, their struggle to defend Fraser’s Ridge is just beginning.
Spanning eight seasons and 101 episodes, Outlander is Starz’s longest-running original series. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the show is adapted from the books by Diana Gabaldon. The upcoming eighth season, consisting of 10 episodes, will bring the story to a close.
Outlander Star Teases Season 8
Before the premiere of Outlander Season 8, the actress promised fans a conclusive ending. She explained that the season will resolve many outstanding storylines and provide the “satisfying” conclusion viewers have been hoping for, with a particular focus on developing the characters’ relationships. She believes the season will tie up loose ends in a way that feels complete and rewarding for the audience.
Honestly, filming this season was incredibly emotional. There were so many farewells – to locations and, more importantly, to people I’ve worked with and cared about for years. What I really hope is that it feels like a good send-off for our amazing fans. We wouldn’t have lasted this long without them, and their support has been incredible. Ultimately, I just want them to feel satisfied with how everything wraps up.
Okay, fellow Outlander lovers, don’t panic about the main show ending! The good news is the prequel is already coming back for a second season on Starz. And mark your calendars – Season 8 of Outlander itself is hitting Starz on March 6th, 2026. Plenty more time-traveling adventures to look forward to!
