Outlander and the 7 best (and 3 worst) shows on streaming right now
As a seasoned viewer of countless series and a self-proclaimed Outlander enthusiast, I can confidently say that the return of Outlander season 7 part 2 has sent me into a frenzy of excitement! The show’s ability to blend history, romance, adventure, and drama in a captivating manner is truly unparalleled.
As a die-hard Outlander fan, I can’t contain my excitement! The long-awaited, highly anticipated return of season 7 part 2 is finally here, streaming each week on Fridays with episode 9, “Unfinished Business.” We fans are absolutely thrilled and living in Outlander heaven as our beloved show has made its grand comeback!
This historical drama stands out as not just one of the finest series currently streaming, but arguably one of the greatest ever produced. In a league of its own, the narrative remains captivatingly original and thrilling. The characters evolve beautifully, and at the core lies the compelling romance between Jamie and Claire. We can’t help but appreciate romance, and it’s hard to find a ship more endearing than theirs. Indeed, they are exceptional.
If you appreciate history too, then this show called Outlander might appeal to you. It’s packed with battles, wars, and characters inspired by real-life personalities. Politics and drama play a significant role, as do the many challenges the characters face. I bet you’ll find plenty to enjoy about it! What stands out to me the most, however, is the ongoing question: will Jamie and Claire remain together?
The fact that they won’t be separated permanently is clear. Instead of asking when they will reunite, it’s more intriguing to consider how they will handle being apart due to external factors. I find this approach to their story quite innovative since the traditional “will they/won’t they” trope can become repetitive and dull. What stands out about their narrative is that they are soulmates who deeply understand their connection.
Here are seven outstanding shows currently streaming, in addition to Outlander, that warrant your attention. However, there are also three shows that I would advise against watching due to their lackluster quality. Below is the complete rundown:
Best shows on streaming right now
- Outlander
- The Day of the Jackal
- What We Do in the Shadows
- Yellowstone
- Outer Banks
- Shrinking
- Silo
- Based on a True Story
Worst shows on streaming right now
- American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez
- Grotesquerie
- Three Women
Best: Based on a True Story
Among the outstanding series currently streaming, there’s no denying that “Based on a True Story” stands out, particularly since its second season has just been released! Featuring Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina, this intriguing blend of murder mystery and comedy offers a fresh perspective on the genre. The story revolves around Ava (Cuoco) and Nathan (Messina), a married couple who set out to identify their town’s serial killer, known as the West Side Ripper. Once they’ve confronted him, they persuade Matt into teaming up with them for a podcast. This struggling couple, who are expecting, hope that this venture will bring them some much-needed financial stability.
In the second season, there’s an unexpected plot twist: Ava’s sibling Tory is revealed to be involved with Matt, and they’re shown as an engaged couple right from the start! It’s also disclosed that she is aware of his violent past. However, it seems like he’s trying to reform and has no plans for further killings. But, can we trust that? The entirety of Based on a True Story season 2 is available now for streaming, but I won’t give away any spoilers if you haven’t watched it yet. I highly recommend checking it out!
Worst: Grotesquerie
Apologies if you’re a fan of Ryan Murphy, but he’s certainly been keeping busy this year! In quick succession, he’s released “Grotesquerie,” “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez,” and “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” It’s impressive how close together these releases were. Although I wasn’t as bothered by the Menendez Brothers series on Netflix as some others, I can see why it might not have been everyone’s cup of tea.
Regarding the other two shows, particularly “Grotesquerie”, I strongly advise against watching them. It’s one of the poorest productions from 2024. Unfortunately, despite a promising start, it spirals downhill quickly. The narrative is chaotic and convoluted, with an excessive focus on a nun and priest who lack moral integrity. The plot twists are not compelling, and there’s a distinct lack of relatable characters. In fact, you should avoid this show for your own mental well-being.
