Outer Worlds 2 price drops to $69.99, refunds issued to pre-orders
Following criticism about its $79.99 price tag, Outer Worlds 2 has been adjusted to $69.99. In response to this, both Xbox and Obsidian acted promptly by offering refunds and rescheduling the launch date to October 29th.
Back in June, it was disclosed that Outer Worlds 2 would be priced at $79.99. However, this announcement received such negative feedback that developers Obsidian Entertainment have since lowered the price and are offering refunds to those who had already pre-ordered the game.
It appears that the highly-anticipated $80 AAA game has been delayed, for the time being. So, no need to rush to grab those pitchforks just yet.
Outer Worlds 2 price reduced to $69.99
As a dedicated gamer, I’m excited to share that the upcoming game, Outer Worlds 2, has seen a price reduction! Originally priced higher, it’s now set at $69.99 – that’s a 12% drop from its original cost. This adjustment comes as part of Xbox’s decision to reconsider their initial plan to increase prices. Interestingly, Outer Worlds 2 would have been the first Xbox-published game to bear such a substantial price tag, but thankfully, that’s no longer the case!
For gaming enthusiasts, it’s great news if they can secretly hope that the $80 price tag for Mario Kart World on the Switch 2 stays unique, rather than becoming the norm in the gaming industry.
As a dedicated gamer, I firmly believe that I won’t be shelling out my hard-earned cash for any game priced at around $80 unless it promises a minimum playtime of over 100 hours. It seems the industry has to offer a substantial amount of content to make that price tag worthwhile for me, and I’m not alone in this sentiment. This perspective was echoed by many Reddit users in response to the initial $79.99 price tag for Outer Worlds 2.
Fortunately Xbox have kept their finger on the pulse of the community and reacted accordingly.
An Xbox representative shared with IGN that their primary goal is to offer players immersive worlds for exploration, and they plan to maintain the regular price of $69.99 for upcoming full-priced holiday releases such as The Outer Worlds 2, which aligns with present market trends.
Simultaneously, Obsidian Entertainment subtly hinted at Outer Worlds 2 with their announcement about the reduced price:
“We’ve received your distress signal about the pricing issue regarding The Outer Worlds 2, sent via a drone. Being an organization dedicated to preventing corporations from acting unchecked, we have collaborated with [REDACTED] to adjust the price of The Outer Worlds 2. Although this won’t bring universal harmony or peace to your colony, rest assured that we are committed to championing every colony in any way possible.”
