I’m a huge Outer Banks fan, and I’m honestly a little sad to hear season 4 is the last one! Everyone’s been buzzing, wondering what’s going to happen to John B., Sarah, and the rest of the Pogues. I’m so curious to see how their story finally wraps up.
Netflix has confirmed that filming for the final season of Outer Banks is complete. Fans can expect the fifth and final season to arrive on the streaming service in 2026. Series creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke recently shared details about the upcoming season with Netflix’s Tudum.
We’re incredibly excited to begin filming the final season with the cast of Outer Banks! It feels both wonderful and a little sad to be back on set for one last adventure. We can’t wait for fans to see what happens – it’s going to be an exciting season!

The announcement that the series has finished filming follows recent accusations against its creator, Jonas Pate, who also worked on shows like The Runarounds, New Amsterdam, and Iron Fist. According to Variety, Pate was accused of being physically and verbally aggressive towards a production assistant. Stars Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline reportedly intervened to calm the situation down.
In season four of Outer Banks, the group, known as the Pogues, searched for Blackbeard’s treasure in Morocco. However, the journey became deeply personal when JJ learned that Chandler Groff is his biological father. Tragically, Chandler then killed JJ after JJ bravely gave up the Blue Crown to protect Kiara.
Details about season 4’s storyline are scarce, but it seems likely the group will focus on avenging their friend’s death by tracking down Groff and recovering the treasure. Meanwhile, a significant plotline planned for season 5 involves Sarah discovering she’s pregnant. The actress playing Sarah discussed her character’s upcoming experiences and what viewers can anticipate.
I’m not using a fake pregnancy belly for this storyline. Everyone keeps asking where my baby bump is, but I don’t have one! I wasn’t going to run around doing stunts – like jumping, falling off boats, or sprinting – while wearing a silicone belly. When I agreed to this plotline, I made it clear I didn’t want to wear one, especially not in the intense South Carolina summer heat. For most of July, it felt like it was between 100 and 116 degrees with the heat index.
Netflix reports that Outer Banks has been viewed almost 200 million times over its four seasons and appeared on the Top 10 English TV list a remarkable 25 times. Although the details of the final season are still under wraps, the show’s creators have known the ending since the very beginning. As Josh Pate confirmed, “We’ve always known what the last scene would be.”
