As a die-hard Outer Banks fan with countless hours invested in the series, I must admit, it feels like a cruel twist of fate that we have to wait until 2026 for the fifth and final season. It’s akin to finding a treasure map only to realize that X marks the spot on the moon – tantalizingly close yet so far away!
The planning for Outer Banks season 5 is underway, and we now have an idea of when the cast and team behind this popular Netflix show will resume work on their fifth and last season, as revealed in a recent conversation with co-creator and executive producer Jonas Pate.
Recently, an interview with Pate was featured by Port City Daily, based in Wilmington, North Carolina. According to the article, it was revealed that filming for Outer Banks season 5 is scheduled to start in the spring of 2025 and will carry on until the end of the year.
Indeed, fans of “Outer Banks” may not be thrilled with the news that they could be waiting quite some time for season 5 following an extraordinary fourth season and its heart-wrenching finale.
Outer Banks season 5 will likely be released in 2026

Based on various sources, we anticipated that filming for Outer Banks Season 5 would commence in the spring of 2025. However, there are whispers on the internet suggesting an April start date. Nevertheless, the exact duration of production for the final season remains uncertain.
It has been disclosed that the fifth season of “Outer Banks” won’t wrap up until the end of this year. For the majority of the year, the cast and production team will be busy with work on the upcoming season.
If the release schedule for Outer Banks season 5, as reported by Port City Daily, remains consistent, it’s unlikely we’ll see the new season in 2025. A more reasonable expectation would be a 2026 premiere date for the fifth season of Outer Banks.
Additionally, Pate recognized the rationale behind wrapping up “Outer Banks” earlier as opposed to later, according to Port City Daily.
“We don’t want to still be doing this and it looks like Chase Stokes is turning 40.”
In a different wording, the character portrayed by Stokes, known as John B, is just 32 years of age. One might wonder, Jonas, why you’re keeping us on tenterhooks for potentially eight more seasons?
Additionally, Port City Daily reported that the team behind Outer Banks is planning a prequel series titled Kildare. The creators, Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke, have hinted that they aim to shoot Kildare in Wilmington, North Carolina, as opposed to where most of Outer Banks is filmed in South Carolina. At this time, there’s not much information regarding the release schedule for Kildare.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got a strong hunch that the Kildare series is on its way. Although Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed it yet, I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
I’m eagerly anticipating that we won’t have to endure an extended period before Outer Banks returns for its fifth season. The absence of a new season next year is bound to leave a void, but based on the quality of the first four seasons, it will undoubtedly be worth the wait.
Stay tuned for more updates about Outer Banks season 5!
