As a gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating the treacherous waters of pirate lore and treasure hunts, I can confidently say that season 4 episode 3 of Outer Banks was a veritable feast for my adventure-starved soul!

Filled with suspense, a quest for excitement, and other captivating elements, this installment titled “The Lupine Corsairs” on Netflix is not to be missed! Here’s our take on the third episode of the season, so brace yourself for some spoilers ahead.

Following the suspenseful ending of episode 2, where Wes Greytte is found dead and the Pogues sailing their boat directly to his house with Shoupe on the case, it’s only natural that he would question them. The seemingly interrogation but actually quite humorous exchange between John B, Sarah, Pope, and Cleo was a perfect moment of levity amidst the intense drama and high-pressure situation that JJ and Kiara find themselves in at the hospital.

In the end, Lightner enters to have his wound sewn due to JJ thrusting a spear into him. You see, he had assaulted them while submerged! Upon seeing JJ, he instantly recognizes them as the individuals he was battling with underwater for the amulet. This predicament is perilous, and it’s thrilling to watch JJ and Kie escape from the hyperbaric chamber in a manner characteristic of Pogue. As they exit, they also obtain Lightner’s file.

Thanks to Pope’s exceptional scientific abilities, the group of companions successfully cleaned the amulet and unveiled the inscription within. However, since it was written in Arabic, they couldn’t understand its meaning. To clarify, Sarah and John B visited an imam at their local Islamic Center for translation assistance. Upon learning that the text referred to Edward Teach, the imam grew tense, claimed the artifact was cursed, and urged John B and Sarah to leave promptly. One might wonder what information the imam possessed or why he reacted in such a way.

The plot thickens as we uncover the amulet isn’t the most valuable item currently in circulation. Eavesdropping on Lightner and a woman at the beach, as well as JJ and Kie narrowly escaping the intimidating figure, Pope picks up on their conversation about The Blue Crown. This treasure, they learn, is incredibly valuable, far surpassing the $50,000 Charles is still offering for the amulet. Naturally, they don’t reveal they already possess the amulet. Instead, they embark on a fresh quest to locate The Blue Crown in hopes of securing more financial resources they desperately require.

As the enigma surrounding the treasure becomes increasingly apparent, another plotline is progressing at a somewhat leisurely pace: Hollis’s efforts to draw Rafe into the project of developing Goat Island. It’s intriguing that Hollis seems to be acquainted with Sofia’s father, given her origins in The Cut before amassing her wealth, and it appears that Sofia’s father is asking Hollis to persuade Rafe to accept the offer for a financial reward.

Initially, Sofia appears to be a dedicated girlfriend and declines. However, after hearing derogatory comments from Rafe about not being serious with Pogue, she becomes enraged and impulsively decides to visit Hollis to accept the offer in her anger. To be honest, I’m far from a fan of Rafe, but there’s something that suggests he might genuinely care for Sofia. It seems odd to believe someone like Rafe could show empathy, but it appeared as though he didn’t want to say those words, yet felt obligated due to his fellow Kooks. This situation piques my curiosity about how it will connect with the treasure hunt.

Returning to the world of the Pogues, we conclude with a thrilling suspense! Lightner has discovered their hideout and along with his henchmen, they arrive at Poguelandia 2.0. Here, they seize Cleo. But who’s at the helm of the ship they board? None other than her previous employer, Terrance!

In the third episode of season 4, Outer Banks delivers even more excitement, keeping us hooked just as we expect from this thrilling series. The Pogues never fail to offer a mix of adrenaline-pumping action and danger, whether they’re evading pursuers, seeking hidden riches, or both. This episode skillfully combines these elements while also adding some charming and romantic scenes to the mix.

As a gamer, I found John B and Sarah’s adorable moment of exchanging homemade rings really heartwarming. They’re saving up for the real thing, and I appreciate the pacing of the episode that subtly moved the story forward. It was engaging and well-executed, earning an A grade from me.

In case you missed it, “Outer Banks” Season 4 Part 2 will make its debut on Netflix this coming Thursday, November 7, 2024. Don’t forget to catch up on the reviews for the first part of season 4 too!
