Oti Mabuse’s Proposal Story: What Went Wrong on Her Special Day!
Oti Mabuse shared details about her husband, Marius Lepure’s proposal, and mentioned one mistake he made in his proposal.
During the initial episode of The Jonathan Ross Show last Saturday, the judge from Dancing On Ice, aged 34, recounted the tense day back in 2014 that culminated with Marius, now 41, proposing to her.
However, the evening didn’t turn out as expected. He chose an unconventional film and planned a dinner afterward. But she found the movie not appealing to her taste, describing it as “not my scene”.
Reflecting warmly on a hectic day, Oti shared with Jonathan: “He suggested we go see the movie ‘Planet of the Apes’. He was quite apprehensive. He led me to Hard Rock Cafe, but they were blasting heavy metal music, which wasn’t my scene.
We visited a hotel, and on that day happened to be his birthday. As I was preparing to retire for the night, he asked me to hold off until the day ended, then surprisingly proposed marriage to me. He even presented me with a ring. All in all, quite a lovely evening without the monkeys!
In November 2023, they welcomed their baby girl into the world a bit earlier than expected, due to an infection she had at birth. She required six weeks of specialized care in the intensive care unit.

On the eve of Christmas, Oti posted a number of charming photos featuring her lovely daughter and extended relatives. She expressed that the child brings them immense happiness, referring to her as their “greatest source of delight.
At the 28th week of pregnancy, Oti found out that she had gestational diabetes, which is a form of high blood sugar that develops during pregnancy. After giving birth, she went through additional difficulties as she developed sepsis.
Previously known as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, she delivered her baby without medical intervention while humming Chicago’s tunes throughout the process. However, complications occurred later on.
In the broadcast, Oti was accompanied by Brian Cox, Christina Hendricks, and Chris McCausland. Additionally, she shared her experiences as a mother, stating: “She’s a one-year-old now – full of sass! She dislikes being told what to do; instead, she tells us what to do.
‘For over a year now, she hasn’t had proper sleep. In the dead of night, she suddenly gets up and begins to dance instead.’
Regarding her daughter pursuing her career path, she mentioned: ‘As a dancer, one doesn’t necessarily wish their child to take the same path. I’ll encourage and back whatever she chooses, but secretly, I hope she’d become an astronaut.’
I think it would be great if she could give other activities a shot. Dancing has been really rewarding for me, but I hope she can discover new experiences by exploring other areas.
Besides discussing dance moves, she conversed with Jonathan about her judging position for the ongoing season of Dancing on Ice and her forthcoming tour.

Regarding critiquing the contestants, Oti stated: “I strive to express things positively, but sometimes the ‘red light’ gets turned on, and constructive criticism just slips out. I see myself as offering assistance, not criticism. I aim to be as truthful as possible, while also bringing my extensive Latin and Ballroom dance background into play.
Having an absolutely fantastic time! Sitting beside the incredible duo, Jayne Torvill and Chris Dean – undoubtedly the cream of the crop in their field, unmatched anywhere in the world.

Jonathan quizzed Oti on who she thinks is going to win while referencing some of the contestants.
The judge complimented them by saying, “Michaela Strachan is fantastic, catering to women’s interests, while Anton Ferdinand is exceptional, demonstrating both strength and athleticism.
When Jonathan brought up Dan Edgar from The Only Way Is Essex, Oti replied with: “Everyone adores him – I’m one of them! People appreciate his skating skills and appearance.
Previously experienced celebrities find it more challenging to excel on the ice-skating competition last month, according to the famous personality.
Previously, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing former Strictly Come Dancing stars, James Jordan and Brendan Cole, grace the famed ice rink in a competition, which has ignited discussions among viewers due to their exceptional dancing abilities.

However, Oti stated in January, “Often, when one has dance background, as I’ve learned from my own professional dancing experience, you’re advised to keep your knees straight and remain on the balls of your feet.
Instead, let me explain it another way: To perform this action correctly, you should bend your knees, flex your feet, and finally, while donning hefty ice skates, extend your points. It’s quite distinct from what you’ve been doing.
If a person possesses dance background and knowledge of dance technique and physique, it doesn’t necessarily make skating more difficult for them due to their ability to grasp choreography and respond to music. However, this skill set is not always beneficial as it may not always be advantageous in the context of ice dancing.
Occasionally, having a dance background can pose challenges because people tend to evaluate and treat you differently than others. This differential treatment often means less empathy is shown towards you and higher expectations are set. As a result, life can be more demanding for those with a dance history.
In the program, Jonathan inquired whether the dancer still longed for her professional days on Strictly, to which she replied: “It was a significant aspect of my life. I’m eternally thankful for Strictly, but now I appreciate it as a spectator and I create choreography for the show.
Dancing remains an integral part of my existence, yet I’ve transitioned from participating to spectating. Currently, I’m enjoying Strictly Come Dancing alongside my little girl and a glass of wine.
Regarding her upcoming dance show titled Viva Carnival, Oti mentioned that it will feature dances inspired by unique carnivals that hold a special place in her heart. The performance will encompass elements of the Brazilian Carnival, Argentinean Carnival, African Carnival, and even a tribute to Glastonbury Festival. This diverse lineup seems to stem from her passion for exploration and experiencing different cultures around the world.
The Jonathan Ross Show, Saturday at 21.35pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player
