Viewers loved Matt Berry’s surprise appearance as the announcer at the Oscars on Sunday, and many said he should be a regular at all awards shows.
As a big fan, I noticed something interesting – while people in the US didn’t seem to recognize the ceremony’s narrator, those of us in the UK were absolutely thrilled to hear Matt’s voice! It’s just so distinctive and comforting to hear him guiding us through the event.
Matt, age 51, is a well-known actor who has appeared in popular shows like The IT Crowd, Toast of London, The Mighty Boosh, and Darkplace.
However, his star has risen in America thanks to his role in vampire comedy What We Do In Shadows.
At the event, Conan O’Brien introduced Matt to the audience, which included many famous people. Matt narrated the ceremony remotely from a studio in the UK.
Viewers expressed excitement upon discovering that Matt Berry was the voice behind the Oscars announcements, with one fan jokingly admitting they only just realized it and calling themselves a ‘fraud’.

The award for Best Live-Action Short Film resulted in an unusual tie between two films: The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva.
Gullermo del Toro’s Frankenstein was also a big winner as the Netflix film earned two.
The dramatic reimaging earned both Best Costume Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
Kate Hawley won the award for Costume Design, and Jordan Samuel, Mike Hill, and Cliona Furey were recognized for their work in Makeup and Hair.
