Oscars 2025: The Most Boring Ceremony Ever

This year’s 97th Academy Awards, often referred to as the Oscars, have been labeled as the most tedious in history. Viewers expressed their disappointment over unexpected winners in crucial categories and criticized repetitive comments seemingly related to President Trump.

On that particular night, Anora emerged as the clear victor, claiming a total of five awards. Among these were prestigious titles such as Best Picture, Best Leading Actress, and Best Director.

The movie revolves around a character portrayed by Mikey Madison, who is a prostitute, and her marriage to the son of a powerful Russian businessman, a relationship that his family finds objectionable.

At one of the most significant events, Madison unexpectedly won the Best Actress award, surpassing the long-standing dominance of Demi Moore in that category during a large part of the awards season.

In a similar fashion, Timothee Chalamet’s performance in A Complete Unknown was overshadowed by Adrien Brody’s act in The Brutalist, which led to a wave of memes suggesting that he had suffered the ‘Kardashian effect,’ as he attended with his girlfriend Kylie Jenner.

Snubs and upsets in the big categories

In a highly competitive category, Mikey Madison, aged 25, found herself alongside Fernanda Torres, Karla Sofia Gascon, Cynthia Erivo, and Demi Moore. However, Demi Moore was widely expected to secure the victory.

Immediately following the announcement of the award, I found myself inundated with messages expressing outrage over Demi not winning and arguing that she should have been the recipient instead.

One user said she was ‘robbed’ and another called it the ‘biggest snub in Oscars history.’

During the awards season, Moore shared an inspiring journey of resurgence, recounting at the Golden Globes that she had once been labeled as a “popcorn actress,” implying she wouldn’t be recognized during award ceremonies.

Just like Timothee Chalamet openly expressed his ambition to receive an Oscar for Best Actor while promoting the Bob Dylan biopic titled A Complete Unknown, he had done so.

After receiving the SAG award, he expressed his ambition, stating that he is striving for excellence. In casual terms, I aspire to be among the greatest. The greats inspire me.

Although he was sincere and had an acclaimed performance, it was Adrien Brody who ultimately won, receiving his second award for The Brutalist.

But… 

Kardashian curse strikes 

Malcolm was cautioned that the risks were significant when he decided to bring his partner, Kylie Jenner, to his most important event.

In one of the initial episodes of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” she admitted that men who date the Kardashian sisters often face a supposed ‘curse,’ leading to their eventual fall from grace.

According to Jenner, dating a Kardashian seems to have a negative impact on men’s lives, leading them to experience a decline in their fortunes following the relationship.

The sisters have previously slammed the theory as ‘super sexist.’ 

Woke rants 

At this year’s Oscars, much like other award ceremonies in Hollywood, there were moments when the event transformed into a stage for expressing political views. Some nominees and hosts didn’t shy away from making statements or jokes criticizing the Trump administration.

However, the witty comments didn’t manage to invigorate an otherwise dull event. The presentation lacked the usual enthusiasm and grandeur compared to previous shows, receiving minimal praise from both critics and spectators.

The attempts at being witty didn’t succeed in making the event more exciting, as it was rather uneventful. The delivery was less energetic and extravagant than past performances, and it seemed to generate little interest among critics and viewers alike.

During his heartfelt speech, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Basel Adra faced interruptions while expressing his strong opinions about Donald Trump’s foreign policies concerning the Israel-Palestine conflict on stage.

In a straightforward manner, Adra held the award for Best Documentary, titled No Other Land, which portrayed the struggles of Palestinians during their prolonged conflict with Israel.

However, while criticizing this government’s foreign policy for obstructing peace, an audience member vocalized “eliminate Hamas,” as reported by a Vulture journalist who witnessed the exchange.

During his opening speech, the host Conan O’Brien avoided political topics, but later in the event, he couldn’t help taking a dig at Trump.

He shared with the crowd: “Anora has been doing well tonight, with two victories so far. It seems that Americans are eager to witness someone challenging a formidable Russian.

It came after Oscars presenter Daryl Hannah also made an off-script remark about Trump.

At the beginning of her speech, the actress declared, “Glory to Ukraine,” which is translated as “Slava Ukraini.

Almost certainly, Gascon disqualified herself as a strong candidate for the Best Leading Actress award at the Oscars when old, racially insensitive tweets she posted were rediscovered during her campaign, making it highly unlikely that she would win.

The controversy also ended her film Emilia Perez’ hopes in the main categories, some experts said.

She resurfaced to attend the Oscars but it made for an awkward evening for her colleagues.

Saldana choked up, acknowledging that she was the first person of Dominican descent to receive an Oscar from America. She expressed gratitude towards several individuals such as her mother, father, sisters, and spouse.

Moreover, though she acknowledged the entire team led by Emilia Perez, she neglected to specifically credit Karla.

In a similar vein, my encounter with my co-star, Selena Gomez, proved to be somewhat uncomfortable when we unexpectedly crossed paths in a gathering. We exchanged brief pleasantries and moved on our respective paths afterward.

As a connoisseur of contemporary lifestyles, I couldn’t help but chuckle at the lighthearted banter between O’Brien and the film Anora, nominated for Best Picture. He playfully pointed out that Anora allegedly used a certain profanity an impressive 479 times, beating the record previously held by Karla Sofía Gascón’s publicist by a mere three instances!

As the camera zoomed in on the actress, seemingly unfazed, the host playfully quipped, “Karla, if you’re going to tweet about the Oscars, remember my name is Jimmy Kimmel.

Hulu ends livestream early

Spectators viewing on Hulu felt let down as their stream unexpectedly ended just prior to announcing the last award of the evening.

Online viewers expressed outrage over the technical issue, calling for a year’s worth of complimentary services, while some announced their intention to terminate their subscriptions and requested a refund.

Boring from start to finish

Regardless of the heated debates preceding the grand event, a consensus among critics was evident: they found it dull.

One critic commented, “I found that Oscars ceremony the most tedious I’ve ever seen,” a viewpoint shared by many others on X.

As a lifestyle expert, I must admit that this year’s Oscars left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. The four-hour long ceremony seemed to drag on at times, and the political discourse – from Middle Eastern references to discussions about Putin – felt a bit heavy for an awards show. It was also noticeable that some of the ‘winners’ appeared to be putting on a brave face, while others in the audience seemed more focused on politics than celebrating cinema.

What struck me the most, however, was the irony: these are individuals who can flawlessly memorize movie scripts yet seem to require prompts when they step onto the stage themselves. It’s fascinating, isn’t it?

A-listers’ poor manners 

Fans were buzzing after Edward Norton appeared to swear in response to his Oscars 2025 loss.

The well-respected actor, aged 55, was nominated for the title of Best Supporting Actor for A Complete Unknown, but ultimately lost to Kieran Culkin in the category for A Real Pain.

As soon as Kieran’s name was called, cameras focused on Edward in the crowd, and sharp-eyed social media users swiftly suggested that they had spotted him uttering a curse word.

Towards the evening, Adrien Brody faced criticism for an alleged distasteful action while receiving his second Academy Award for Best Actor.

While ascending the stage stairs, the man paused, removed a piece of gum from his mouth, and tossed it towards Georgina Chapman, who is both an ex of Harvey Weinstein and his girlfriend at age 48.

In a swift motion, Chapman rushed toward her companion, promptly snatching the chewing gum just as he was about to deliver his speech.

Brody was also criticized for the length of his speech.

In his acceptance speech, Adrien went over the 45-second limit by mentioning his earlier Oscar victory.

He concluded by requesting that the music be turned off, as he has performed similar tasks before. He assured us that while he has previous experience, he would keep his remarks succinct and avoid being overly lengthy.

However, prior to the commencement of the event, Doug, her spouse, quelled any speculations with a post on X, saying: “Preparing for our Oscars Watch Party.

The image showcased Harris without makeup, casually pouring Doritos into a bowl. Her hair was neatly tied up in a bun, and she wore a simple black sweater.

She was all smiles in the photo, which appeared to be taken in the couple’s kitchen.

According to Deadline Hollywood’s report on Sunday afternoon, it was suggested that Harris might be present. This assertion was backed by a federal source, who stated that increased security at the event was partially due to her anticipated arrival.

Adam Sandler’s shock walk-out

At the Oscars, Adam Sandler, known for his laid-back style, exited angrily following a joke about him made during Conan O’Brien’s opening speech.

The 58-year-old comedian usually eschews formal attire at most award ceremonies, a point that O’Brien humorously highlighted, which led Sandler to depart, albeit not without planting a kiss on Oscar nominee Timothee Chalamet.

As Sandler expressed his intention to depart, I found myself compelled to voice my regret, acknowledging that it was necessary for him to go. A few voices in the audience pleaded, “Stay!” in an attempt to dissuade him.
