Oscars 2023: Who Will Take Home the Gold? Predictions and Surprises Await!

The grandest cinematic event, the 97th Academy Awards, is nearly here! On Sunday evening, some of the best talents in Hollywood will gather at the Dolby Theatre for this prestigious film ceremony.

Conan O’Brien will make his debut as the host of the Oscars, replacing Jimmy Kimmel who has been in charge for the past four years.

At the 97th Academy Awards, it appears that Anora and The Brutalist are set to equally capture attention in five different categories, according to BetMGM’s predictions.

Lynn Carratt, a PR expert, suggested that it seems quite evident who will take home the awards at this year’s Academy Awards, as she pointed out: “Given the results from the BAFTAs, we can anticipate with a high degree of confidence which individuals are likely to emerge victorious on the night. Interestingly, with visual effects being the exception, every winner at the BAFTAs has subsequently won an Oscar in the past year.

‘In the main award categories, I can see the winners panning out in the same way.’

Even though Mikey Madison’s unexpected victory over Demi Moore at the BAFTAs has left some room for surprises, it remains unclear if the 62-year-old will ultimately secure an Oscar nomination.

Who seems poised to win awards this year, and who might feel let down? TopMob provides an overview of the contenders predicted to clinch the Oscars.

Best Picture

Every year, the prestigious competition will feature a lineup of contenders for the Best Picture award: Wicked, Dune Part Two, Emilia Perez, Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, I’m Still Here, and The Nickel Boys, along with The Substance.

In terms of favorites for the award, it’s Anora, a mix of romance and comedy with a touch of drama, that stands at 1/2 chances, while The Brutalist trails behind with odds of 6/1, as per BetMGM.

Representative of the digital betting platform, Grosvenor Sport, Simon Kew stated, “Conclave is a robust candidate with odds of 11/4, and The Brutalist at 6/1 has potential to cause an upset.

For individuals seeking a compelling ‘underdog’ tale, consider betting on longshots like A Complete Unknown at odds of 50/1 or even Emilia Perez and Wicked priced at 66/1. These choices could potentially yield unexpected results.

‘Meanwhile, Dune: Part Two, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys and The Substance are our 100/1 longshots.’

Yet, as Lynn put it, Conclave’s victory at the BAFTAs might stir things up because she noted: ‘However, nothing is set in stone; Anora’s hold on the Best Film prize is starting to appear a bit tenuous.’

The Academy appreciates unexpected surprises, and Conclave’s remarkable success at the BAFTAs has positioned it as a strong candidate for future awards.

Earlier this month, director Edward Berger won the BAFTA, and he expressed his gratitude by saying: “It’s an immense privilege to receive this award for a British film, but I’m not originally from here! I feel incredibly welcomed among you. We are living in a time of turmoil for democracy. Institutions that once united us now seem to be tearing us apart.

Occasionally, it can be challenging to hold onto hope within certain situations. However, such instances are precisely why we create films, and that’s exactly what we aimed to do with this one.

Best Actor

Adrien Brody appears to be the most likely winner of the Best Actor award, given that his chances stand at 2/5 as PR expert Lynn suggests he’s almost impossible to beat.

In 2003, the star was awarded Best Actor for his role in The Pianist, making him the record holder as the youngest actor to win in that category at the age of 29.

Additionally, Timothée Chalamet is also a formidable contender with odds of 8/5 for A Complete Unknown, boosted by his unexpected victory at the BAFTAs last week.

A British actor, Ralph Fiennes, has been recognized in his category, following his exceptional portrayal of Cardinal Lomeli in the film ‘Conclave.’

At the current odds of 16 to 1, it seems that Ralph, being a two-time nominee for Schindler’s List and The English Patient, is considered a formidable longshot for this year’s awards event, but one who is highly respected nonetheless.

Also nominated in the category are Colman Domingo (Sing Sing) and Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice).

30-year-old Timothee took home an unexpected victory at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last week. He was awarded the title of Best Actor in a Leading Role for his exceptional portrayal of Bob Dylan in the biographical film.

Yet it was Adrien who took the gong at the BAFTAs

In his speech, Adrien paid an emotional homage to England, expressing that it has been feeling very much like home for him recently.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude: “I’m deeply appreciative. I wish to express my thanks to the British public for welcoming me and my artistic pursuits. This means an immense deal to me since England has begun to feel like home recently. I will hold onto these moments, thank you all.

Best Actress

As a die-hard admirer, I can hardly contain my excitement! It’s no secret that Demi Moore has always been exceptional, but her latest role in “The Substance” has catapulted her to an incredible 2/5 favorite for Best Actress! This potential career milestone is truly a testament to her talent and dedication. I can hardly wait to see her shine on the big screen!

Demi has been having a winning streak this awards season, taking home the Best Actress title at both the Golden Globes and SAG Awards over the past weekend.

Speaking enthusiastically, the 62-year-old woman shared that she believed she had overcome the expectations when a director labeled her as a “popcorn actress” three decades prior.

Nevertheless, it was Mikey Madison from Anora who unexpectedly won at the BAFTAs, instead of Demi.

As a seasoned lifestyle connoisseur, I’d say that Mikey is certainly making a name for herself in our circle. With her current odds standing at 15/8, it seems she’s gaining traction and could potentially take home the accolade we all covet. Yet, if she manages to secure this award, it would be her maiden nomination – a testament to her growth and dedication in our field.

As a devoted admirer, I can tell you that Moore poses a significant threat, but if Anora wins the prestigious title of Best Film, it might just be Madison who is left holding the Oscar.

She noted: ‘Many might assume that Mikey Madison stands to benefit the most from a win, given her status as an emerging actress. However, at this point in her career, merely being nominated represents a significant triumph.’

‘The nominee who would benefit the most from a win is Demi Moore.

Even though her role in ‘The Substance’ significantly elevated her career, winning an Oscar would once more secure her as a top choice for producers, and it would serve as a well-deserved recognition for her exceptional career.

Meanwhile, elsewhere, Cynthia Erivo is aiming to win an award for her role as Elphaba, and her chances stand at approximately 1 in 51.

Simon mentioned that Fernanda Torres, currently at odds of 10/1 for ‘I’m Still Here,’ is primarily recognized for her contributions to Brazilian film industry. If she gets nominated, it will mark her initial Academy Award acknowledgement.

Moving lower on the list, you’ll find Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Perez), who is listed at 33/1 odds. If she wins, she would become the first openly transgender actress ever nominated in this category, making history.

Best Director

This weekend, the brilliant minds responsible for this year’s remarkable movies will compete for cinema’s most esteemed honor.

Anora’s Sean Baker is leading the way to win Best Director at 8/15 with BetMGM.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that sentence like this: I was thrilled to see Brady Corbet, the director of “The Brutalist,” take home the top honor at the British Academy Film Awards. The film had an exceptional night, garnering a total of four wins.

The movie claimed victories for the categories of Best Actor, Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score.

In my own words during my address, I expressed my deep sense of humility and profound gratitude. I firmly believe that the title of ‘best director’ is nothing more than a jest or a play on words.

Additionally, James Mangold has been nominated for A Complete Unknown, Sean Baker for Anora, Jacques Audiard for Emilia Pérez, and Coralie Fargeat for The Substance in their respective categories.

Best Supporting Actor

In the supporting categories, it appears that Kieran Culkin and Zoe Saldana are strongly favored to win their awards.

At the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Kieran maintained his winning streak from the awards season with a victory for his role in Jesse Eisenberg’s drama “A Real Pain.” His chances of taking home another award this Sunday are extremely high, standing at nearly certain odds of 1/100.

In this scenario, Benji and David take on roles as two distinct cousins who set off on an unusual journey to Poland, with the intention of paying tribute to their beloved grandmother.

In his speech on Sunday, Kieran playfully criticized his co-star and director Jesse for casting him without him auditioning or reviewing his previous work. He couldn’t help but mention how frustratingly incorrect that decision was.

In the upcoming films “The Brutalist,” “A Complete Unknown,” and “The Apprentice,” Kieran will face off against Guy Pearce, Edward Norton, Jeremy Strong, and relatively unknown actor Yura Borisov from Anora.

Best Supporting Actress

In addition, Zoe has been exceptionally outstanding in the supporting actress category, earning odds of 1/25, for her portrayal of Rita Mora Castro in the Netflix thriller musical “Emilia Pérez.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been closely following the buzz around the latest movie release, and unfortunately, it seems that the conversation has taken an unwelcome turn due to the resurfaced racist and Islamophobic tweets from my costar, Karla Sofía Gascón. These troubling posts, some quite recent, have cast a shadow over the film’s positive aspects.

As a lifestyle expert, I must say that it’s quite an intriguing turn of events when it comes to Netflix and Zoe Kazan. Netflix decided to step back from funding Gascón’s travel for awards shows, which might seem like a blow in her bid for the Best Actress award. However, the film still holds promise in other categories, and I personally believe that Zoe is poised to take home the coveted Oscar this Sunday.

Apart from Zoe, Felicity Jones is likewise contending for a nomination, having been recognized for her stellar performance as Erzsébet Tóth in The Brutalist.

Additionally, Ariana Grande from Cynthia’s Wicked, Monica Barbaro of A Complete Unknown, and Isabella Rossellini who starred in Conclave are all nominees in this particular category as well.

After securing the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and BAFTAs, it’s hard to envision the Academy choosing someone else.
