Oscar winner Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa found dead at home

Iconic Hollywood actor Gene Hackman has died at the age of 95.

On a Wednesday afternoon in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the two-time Oscar winner was discovered deceased at his home, alongside his wife, renowned classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, aged 63, and their pet dog. This tragic event was confirmed by Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza.

As I sat down for an interview, Mendoza clarified that there were no signs pointing to anything untoward happening right away regarding the couple’s demise. He was mum on the specific timeline of their passing and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

According to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office in New Mexico, as reported by BBC News, it has been confirmed that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found dead on Wednesday afternoon at their home located on Sunset Trail.

Currently, we’re actively looking into this matter, but at present, we don’t suspect any wrongdoing.

2004 marked the retirement of Hackman from acting, a decision he made following an illustrious career filled with accolades such as two Academy Awards, two British Academy Film Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

He was awarded Best Actor for the film “The French Connection” and Best Supporting Actor for “Unforgiven”. Additionally, he received Oscar nominations for his performances in “Bonnie and Clyde”, “I Never Sang For My Father”, and “Mississippi Burning”.

In addition to his extensive career that stretched over six decades, Gene Hackman portrayed Lex Luthor in three Superman films. His impressive resume also boasts roles in movies like The Royal Tenenbaums, The Conversation, and Enemy of the State.

Or more concisely:
Gene Hackman played Lex Luthor in three Superman movies during his six-decade career, which also included parts in films such as The Royal Tenenbaums, The Conversation, and Enemy of the State.

In the year 2004, his last on-screen appearance was in the comedy film titled “Welcome to Mooseport“. However, it wasn’t until a 2008 interview with Reuters that he formally announced his retirement, stating that he no longer wished to continue acting.

Acting itself brings me joy, having done it for nearly six decades, but the industry can be incredibly demanding,” Hackman noted.

Making sacrifices in movie-making is simply an inherent aspect, and at some stage, it seemed as though I no longer wished to endure these compromises.

Hackman is survived by his children Christopher, Elizabeth and Leslie.
