People who love classic movies from the 1980s were excited to see a rare post on social media from one of the decade’s biggest, but very private, stars – and her equally well-known sister.
The actress, now 65 and known for her 1985 film ‘Agnes of God’ where she received an Oscar nomination, was recently seen on Instagram enjoying a sweet family moment, suggesting she’s embraced a more relaxed lifestyle away from the Hollywood spotlight.
This action fits her perfectly, considering she famously stepped away from her career in her early thirties to focus on raising her three young children in Canada, wanting to give them a typical childhood.
Wearing a simple apron and cooking in her kitchen, she seemed completely different from the elegant gowns she wore when she appeared with stars like Glenn Close, Kevin Kline, and William Hurt in the 1983 film, The Big Chill.
The pictures feature the actress, who gained attention in 2017 for her role alongside Brad Pitt in the film War Machine, as she cooks a large Thanksgiving meal. This was for the Canadian Thanksgiving, a yearly harvest festival celebrated in October.
Sharing the photos is Jennifer Tilly, her sister, best known for playing Tiffany Valentine in the Child’s Play movies. She’s also recently been on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Can you guess which reclusive star it is?

If you guessed Meg Tilly, you’re right!
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always admired incredible talent, and Tilly’s career is a perfect example! She really hit her stride with the film Agnes of God back in 1985, earning both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination for her amazing performance. It was a truly standout moment!
Her film credits also include Psycho II (1983), Masquerade (1988), and Valmont (1989).
She demonstrated her acting ability in both movies and TV shows by winning the 2013 Canadian Screen Award for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Bomb Girls (2012–13).
When Meg reappeared on screen in 2017, acting alongside Brad Pitt in War Machine, she thought about her courageous choice to leave Hollywood and build a new life for herself.
She told People that she always brought her kids with her when she went to the movies, and this was part of her decision to stop acting.
Things were amazing for a while, honestly. We were riding high! But then came ‘Leaving Normal,’ and when we got back from filming, everything just…shifted. My daughter was heartbroken – her absolute best friend had suddenly moved on and found someone new. It was awful to watch, and it felt like the world had turned upside down in just a few weeks.

Tilly knew she had a difficult choice to make.
I couldn’t bear the thought of being away from my kids for six to nine months. Having had a difficult childhood myself, I didn’t feel comfortable leaving their upbringing to someone else.
‘My children didn’t ask to be born. I had a responsibility to be there.’
Tilly, who is now also a novelist specializing in romance, shared that she fully dedicated herself to the role of a traditional, homemaking mother – striving to be the ideal like June Cleaver from the classic TV show ‘Leave it to Beaver’.
My daughter playfully pointed out that I seem to believe making a large batch of pancakes can fix anything. And honestly, sometimes it feels like it does!
She dreamed of creating a warm, classic family life – like the ones she saw on TV, with fresh-baked cookies and a hearty breakfast every day. She simply wanted to show her children love in the way she understood best.
When she started acting again, her three children were all grown up and living on their own. Emily, age 40, and David, 38, were from her first marriage to producer Tim Zinneman, while Will, 34, was from a relationship with Colin Firth in the early 1990s.
Tilly also admitted she didn’t miss the Hollywood hustle.
‘I didn’t allow myself to miss it,’ she told the outlet of stepping away.
Back then, women often felt like everyone was trying to impress them. It meant a lot of unwanted attention and dealing with men who were still focused on trying to win someone over. It was a difficult situation to navigate.
She added, ‘It’s not always great being famous. I love not being watched all the time.’
