Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight return revealed; happening sooner than you think

As a long-time Marvel fan who’s seen every flick and show since the early days of Iron Man, I can confidently say that Moon Knight has taken the MCU by storm! Oscar Isaac’s performance as Marc Spector was nothing short of breathtaking, and it’s been a true delight to watch him bring this enigmatic character to life.

Marvel Television has captivated us with more than 10 TV series since it started extending the Marvel Cinematic Universe onto small screens through Disney Plus streaming service. However, “Moon Knight” might have been the most enthralling of them all. This series marked the live-action premiere of the most renowned Marvel character outside the X-Men who had never featured in the MCU, thereby concluding his absence from the franchise and opening a fresh narrative for him.

Its greatest strength was, of course, Oscar Isaac, who turned in one of the most nuanced performances in the whole franchise. What he accomplished as Marc Spector and Steven Grant (and of course Moon Knight) was nothing short of outstanding and it was a thrill to watch him perform each and every week throughout the show’s six-episode run.

Since the series concluded its inaugural season in spring 2022, viewers have been anxiously awaiting news about a potential renewal. Additionally, fans have been left guessing when they can expect The Fist of Khonshu to reappear within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, given the show’s unique position outside the main franchise, making it hard to predict its return.

However, we now have a response to one of those queries, since Marvel has disclosed when Oscar Isaac will portray Moon Knight again in the future.

First look at Oscar Isaac’s return as Moon Knight in What If…? season 3

Marvel has released the debut trailer for “What If…?”, season 3, showcasing Oscar Isaac reprising his role as Moon Knight. The adored animated series is concluding with its third and last season, set to premiere on Disney Plus this coming holiday season. It’s making history by being the first time that the White Knight appears in a project separate from his own.

At D23, the studio officially announced that Isaac will once again take on the role of Moon Knight, with those present getting an exclusive sneak peek of season 3. Now, worldwide fans have also been given a taste of what’s to come, as the first trailer has been released.

In essence, Moon Knight will be seen sporting a Moonbot resembling Megatron, making him look even more powerful than before. This new appearance marks his first significant encounter with other Marvel Cinematic Universe characters in “What If…?” which is renowned for portraying larger-than-life interactions that offer fresh interpretations of familiar concepts.

As a gamer, I can tell you that despite Moon Knight being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it doesn’t rely on past events within it. Instead, it ventures into unique locations like London and Egypt, which have yet to be explored by other MCU stories, allowing it to stand independently as a TV show. It delves deeply into its own characters and mythology, making it the first series in the franchise to explore ancient Egyptian Moon Gods, offering a rich tapestry of lore for fans to engage with.

It’s like a welcome back celebration for the character, as his appearance in What If…? could lead him to interact with other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) characters. However, it’s important to note that the events in What If…? don’t follow the main MCU timeline (Earth-616). Instead, it offers an alternate interpretation of the character. Yet, this could pave the way for his future live-action appearances and significant interactions with other MCU versions of himself.

Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight return revealed; happening sooner than you think

There’s been quite a buzz lately about the possibility of Moon Knight getting another season. The chatter started in 2022, right after the show ended, as the post-credits scene hinted at more tales to come. However, with no news for quite some time, fans started to wonder if the series would ever return. That was until this year when several reports emerged stating that Moon Knight is among the Disney Plus shows that Marvel Studios is seriously considering bringing back for another season.

It’s been speculated that Isaac will resume his role in another live-action project, with rumors swirling about a possible “Midnight Sons” movie being in development. This could potentially be followed by “Moon Knight” season 2, or it might be the other way around. Regardless, Isaac’s appearance in “What If…?”, if it happens in season 3, could potentially lay the groundwork for either – or even both – of these projects.

Whether animated or live-action, it’s simply exciting to have Oscar Isaac reprising his role as Moon Knight.
