Oscar Isaac’s Jesus Film Breaks Records, Overtakes Oscar-Winning Giant!
In my experience, I’ve just learned that the animated film I followed, led by the talented Oscar Isaac, has astonishingly overthrown an Academy Award-winning movie and made history by setting a significant box office record. This cinematic masterpiece was unveiled in the United States prior to the Easter holiday.
In a remarkable turn of events, The King of Kings, a Christian film produced by Mofac Studio from South Korea, has now become the highest-grossing Korean movie in the United States, surpassing the earnings of Parasite. To date, The King of Kings has made over $59 million globally. Initially, Parasite had a limited screening in the US and Canada, but it garnered an impressive $53.8 million during its run.
Titled “The King of Kings,” this children’s movie had its U.S. theater debut on April 11. The film boasts a remarkable ensemble cast, with Kenneth Branagh (“Valkyrie”), portraying Charles Dickens; Uma Thurman (“Kill Bill”), as Catherine Dickens; and Oscar Isaac (“Jesus Christ Superstar”) stepping into the role of Jesus Christ. Additionally, Mark Hamill (“Batman: The Animated Series”), Pierce Brosnan (“James Bond”), and Forest Whitaker (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”) are part of the talented cast.
The storyline of “The King of Kings” centers around a father sharing a bedtime tale with his child, which unexpectedly transforms into a profound life adventure, as he visualizes himself accompanying Jesus and observing the biblical figure’s miracles and selfless acts. Although the film has received mixed opinions from critics, it boasts a 97% positive feedback from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, with over 1,000 validated audience reviews serving as its basis.
The King of Kings Continues Its Record-Breaking Box-Office Run
Not only did Oscar Isaac’s “The King of Kings” outperform “Parasite” as the highest-grossing Korean movie in the U.S., but during its release, it also established a new record by having the ‘highest opening weekend for an animated Biblical film in box office history’. This means that its debut weekend earnings were the largest among such films in history.
The carefully planned release timing of “The King of Kings” significantly contributed to its outstanding performance at the box office. Launched during the Easter season, the film generated a substantial pre-sale revenue of approximately $14.6 million. Remarkably, it also ranked second in sales, an impressive achievement considering the strong competition, which held the top spot and garnered an astounding $80 million, establishing itself as Hollywood’s highest-grossing movie of the year to date.
The King of Kings is now showing in theaters.
