Oscar Isaac leaves the door wide open for Poe Dameron’s return

In simpler terms, Oscar Isaac has hinted that he might return as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars universe if the plot and circumstances seem fitting. During an interview with Variety, he expressed this sentiment about his character from the sequel trilogy.

“Yeah, I’d be [sic] a Star Wars again if there was something good to do with that,” he said.

The actor from Moon Knight went on to explain that he doesn’t follow a grand plan for selecting films. Instead, he chooses roles based on whether there’s something within a project that truly captivates him, making him eager and motivated to work each day. He added that he asks himself if the film offers enough appeal to keep him engaged until the end.

Isaac’s remarks emerge in the midst of continuous discussions among Star Wars enthusiasts regarding the future trajectory of the franchise following the sequels. As Lucasfilm delves into fresh narratives spanning films, Disney+, and literature, speculation has persistently swirled around the possibility of legacy characters making a comeback. Although Isaac didn’t disclose any specific plans, his candid approach offers encouragement to fans who have grown fond of Poe’s brave flying skills and steadfast devotion to the Resistance.

In the sequel trilogy, Poe Dameron’s journey evolved significantly. Initially, he was a self-assured and somewhat reckless pilot in “The Force Awakens.” However, by the time of “The Rise of Skywalker,” he had become a pivotal leader within the Resistance. His endearing relationships with characters such as Finn, Rey, and BB-8 were instrumental in making him a beloved figure among viewers.

In terms of Lucasfilm’s future projects, there are multiple possibilities for Poe Dameron to reclaim his X-wing seat. Simon Kinberg has expressed a desire for his upcoming trilogy to exhibit a gritty style similar to “Andor,” which would potentially provide an environment suitable for the return of the feisty pilot. However, it’s more likely that Isaac will appear in Daisy Ridley’s ongoing Rey project, which is rumored to usher in a fresh era within the Star Wars timeline.

Speaking as a passionate movie fan, I shared with Variety that the story must resonate deeply within me to consider reprising my role. Star Wars devotees everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that I’m still eager to slip back into the character, paving the way for potential new journeys in a distant galaxy.
