Oscar De La Hoya pleads with Floyd Mayweather, Vince Morales' submission & Carla Esparza's retirement

As a lifelong combat sports enthusiast with decades of watching and analyzing fights under my belt, let me weigh in on these stories that have recently caught my attention.

In this piece, I’ll be dissecting daily updates from the realm of combat sports, providing my unique perspective in a fresh, daily segment. Remember to visit us each morning for the latest news headlines, whether they’re major or offbeat, along with my insights on these stories.

Oscar De La Hoya pleads with Floyd Mayweather

Oscar De La Hoya wants Floyd Mayweather to stop with his exhibition bouts. “It was so embarrassing,” he said in a recent Instagram video. “Floyd, you’re 50 years old. You’re a legend in this sport, and I’ve stood up for you in countless interviews, including Shannon Sharpe’s podcast last week. But you have to stop embarrassing yourself with these exhibitions. I know life i hard and life is expensive, but come one man, put your legacy first. Nobody wants to remember you like this.”

Oscar De La Hoya isn’t the only one feeling this way. It seems that spectators aren’t flocking to watch Mayweather fight the grandson of a deceased mob boss. There’s little enthusiasm for his matches and since there doesn’t appear to be anything significant at stake, people don’t seem to care about the results. These fights are often perceived as mere money-making schemes and, yes, Oscar is correct; it’s rather embarrassing.

Vince Morales secured modified Peruvian necktie

On Friday evening, former UFC fighter Vince Morales emerged victorious from the main event of United Fight League 5 against Hunter Azure. However, it wasn’t just the victory that was thrilling; in the last minute of the bout, he secured a submission using an adapted Peruvian necktie technique.

Since leaving the UFC, Morales has now won five fights consecutively. In four out of these five victories, he managed to secure a finish. Given such an impressive performance, I believe it’s high time for Morales to be reconsidered for another opportunity in the UFC.

Carla Esparza explains her decision to retire

Two-time UFC champion Carla Esparza has disclosed the reason behind her decision to retire from Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) after UFC 307. In an interview with MMA Fighting, she expressed, “This choice wasn’t made lightly; it required a great deal of contemplation.” She added, “I had always said that I would stop fighting when this sport ceased to be enjoyable for me and my passion waned. However, that hasn’t occurred. My hunger to learn remains undiminished, and I am still as passionate as ever about growing, learning, and advancing in this sport.” She continued, “It wasn’t a lack of fun or passion that led to this decision. There are many factors at play.”

As a fervent admirer, if Esparza is experiencing such feelings now, I can’t help but wonder if she might have been better off parting ways with MMA permanently. Don’t get me wrong, I empathize with her desire for one last bout, but I fear that choice could potentially cause her trouble in the future. Here’s hoping my concerns prove unfounded.
