Orlando Bloom reveals what was “so good” about London-set new movie Deep Cover

Orlando Bloom has revealed what was “so good” about his new London-set film, Deep Cover.

On June 12th, the action-comedy will be available for streaming on Prime Video. The story revolves around an improv instructor (Bryce Dallas Howard) and two of her pupils, portrayed by Bloom and Nick Mohammed, who find themselves assigned with the mission to penetrate a criminal organization.

Featuring a powerhouse ensemble led by Sean Bean, Paddy Considine, and Ian McShane, Tom Kingsley’s movie has Bloom portraying an earnest, struggling actor. The role offers Bloom an exciting opportunity to delve into his character’s depths.

Bloom shared with Digital Spy, “It’s fantastic,” she said. “Falling into the trap of taking things too seriously is something that can happen so easily – I may have done it myself in the past. The appeal for me was being able to approach it with a straight face and play everything deadpan.

The actor shared, reflecting on his past, about envisioning himself leaving drama school, feeling dejected at not having any opportunities for my career and yearning for a more fulfilling life. He went on to express that this role reminded him of just how fortunate he feels.

It made me think about how fortunate we are for our careers, yet it was an easy task. I experienced the pain of an unemployed actor yearning for work, and everyone else felt that too,” said Bloom, known for his roles in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series.

Kingsley, known for shows like ‘Ghosts’ and ‘Stath Lets Flats’, had hinted at aspects of Bloom’s character before, sharing with Entertainment Weekly: “He dives headfirst into his roles and he improvises excessively, which can be quite frightening to those around him.

The director noted that Orlando had a keen understanding of what made his character amusing and skillfully portrayed it, by fully immersing himself in the role. Moreover, he’s open to poking fun at himself, according to the director.

Deep Cover is released on Prime Video on 12 June.
