Original Ginny actor says a cameo in Max’s Harry Potter show would be “confusing”
As a lifelong Harry Potter enthusiast who has watched the magical world unfold across multiple decades, I must say that the prospect of an HBO series based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved novels fills me with equal parts excitement and trepidation. On one hand, the chance to delve deeper into the lives of our favorite characters is tantalizing, especially given the advancements in storytelling and special effects since the original films were released. On the other hand, I cannot help but feel a twinge of nostalgia as I ponder the new interpretations that await us.
Regardless of personal feelings, HBO is moving forward with a TV adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter series, promising an accurate portrayal of all seven books. This project is massive in scope and details about casting are starting to emerge. There might be appearances from actors of the original films, but Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) isn’t certain if she will participate.
Bonnie Wright played Ginny Weasley in every one of the initial eight Harry Potter films, making her part of the actors with the longest tenures. Even though she’s been in this role for more than a decade, she isn’t overly guarded about the character. In fact, she can’t wait to see how the new actor portraying Ginny will bring their own interpretation to life, whoever they may be.
Wright shared with Us Magazine that for a decade, we all were involved in those roles, and I’m eager to see what lies ahead for that character. There are countless possibilities in understanding each character, so I’m looking forward to exploring them.
Regarding the upcoming series due to start filming in mid-2025, Wright is unsure if appearing for a cameo in this new production aligns with her plans. She expressed, “To be honest, it could get confusing,” she said, having previously mentioned being “open” to such an opportunity. “If they were to tell another story, I think it would work,” she continued. “However, showing up at the same time as Ginny might create some metatextual moments that could be a bit tricky.
As of now, none of the actors from the original Harry Potter movies have been confirmed to be in the new series. However, Daniel Radcliffe and many others have expressed their approval for the new cast members taking on these beloved characters that have left such a significant mark on pop culture. It’s said that more than 30,000 people submitted audition tapes for the roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, including a 42-year-old man attempting to play Hermione – an attempt that didn’t succeed, but there’s certainly a great deal of enthusiasm.
