Original Fantastic Four Actors on Avengers: Secret Wars Return: ‘It’s Clobbering Time’

Two of the original actors from the *Fantastic Four* movie recently appeared together at New York Comic Con. They talked about playing their famous characters and hinted at the possibility of being in the upcoming *Avengers: Secret Wars* film, much to the excitement of fans. They also shared stories about the difficulties and rewards of being part of the Marvel universe.

Michael Chiklis and Ioan Gruffudd open to return for Avengers: Secret Wars

During a New York Comic Con panel called “Back to the Baxter Building,” Ioan Gruffudd and Michael Chiklis talked about their roles as Mr. Fantastic and the Thing. According to Variety, both actors said they would definitely come back for Marvel’s upcoming *Avengers: Secret Wars* movie. The crowd enthusiastically cheered when Chiklis finished by exclaiming his character’s famous line, “It’s clobberin’ time,” showing how excited he is to return to Marvel.

Michael Chiklis shared that the heavy and constricting Thing suit was almost enough to make him leave the movie. He explained that once the suit was fully glued together, especially the hands, he was completely stuck inside with no way to easily get out.

He explained the suit made him feel overheated and anxious, to the point where he twice panicked and demanded to be removed. Each time, taking the suit off took hours. He also mentioned that a psychiatrist helped him deal with panic attacks on set.

Gruffudd discussed how he worked on his American accent for the role of Mr. Fantastic. He explained that truly finding a character’s voice requires repeated script reading and close work with a dialect coach to ensure it sounds natural. He described Mr. Fantastic as intelligent and principled, and emphasized that understanding the character’s personality was key to his performance.

Ioan Gruffudd and his co-stars developed a strong connection while filming the *Fantastic Four* movies. He described the nearly six months spent together as creating a ‘family’ atmosphere, and watching the finished films felt like an incredible experience.
