Original Blue Bloods Cast Member Returns For Boston Blue Spinoff
Anticipated spinoff of “Blue Bloods,” titled “Boston Blue,” will air on CBS’s 2025 fall TV lineup. Fans are ecstatic about this news as Donnie Wahlberg reprises his cherished role as Detective Danny Reagan, now working with the Boston Police Department. I’ve been curious if other Reagans would be part of it, and my curiosity has been put to rest. Wahlberg has revealed that an original cast member is set to return, which makes me incredibly joyful.
As filming continues on Boston Blue, Wahlberg took to Instagram on Friday to share a photo from set, but it’s not just any photo. He was beside on-screen sister Bridget Moynahan for a very special reason. The New Kids on the Block co-founder revealed that Moynahan will not only be “bringing her incredible directing talents” to Boston Blue, but Erin Reagan will officially be making an appearance and joining her brother for a brief time in Boston:

I’m thrilled to learn that Moynahan is set to feature on “Boston Blue,” and it has me feeling like breaking into the song, “Reunited, it sure does feel so great!” because honestly, it does!
It’s been just a year since production ended on “Blue Bloods”, yet I can’t help but wonder how wonderful it must feel for Wahlberg and Moynahan to collaborate again, having not worked together in what seems like ages. Over the course of 14 seasons, “Blue Bloods” became more than just a television show; the Reagan family was not only a family on-screen but also off, and I hope that Moynahan won’t be the only one joining the cast of “Boston Blue”.
Certainly, specifics about her physical characteristics haven’t been disclosed yet, making it challenging to predict what might prompt Erin to travel to Boston. It could simply be a desire to catch up with her brother, or perhaps she wants to share news about herself and Jack following the series finale. Regardless of the reason, it will undoubtedly be thrilling to see Moynahan and Wahlberg reunited on screen. If only their character Jamie could also be there…

Moynahan is the original cast member making a comeback, but she isn’t the first Reagan family member to reappear since Danny. Previously announced was that Danny’s actual son, Sean, would join Boston, but not as portrayed by Andrew Terraciano. Instead, Mika Amonsen will play the part because Sean is now a patrolman with the Boston Police Department. It remains uncertain if Jack, played by Tony Terraciano (Andrew’s real-life brother), will also reappear in future scenes.
Information about Bridget Moynahan’s appearance and the episode she’s directing will be revealed in the upcoming months, but for now, Boston Blue fans have an exciting anticipation: The new series is set to debut on CBS on October 17 at 10 p.m. ET. In the interim, you can catch up on all episodes of Blue Bloods with a Paramount+ subscription.
