Original Avenger "confirmed" for Captain America 4 return; fans stunned

As a long-time Marvel fan, I can hardly contain my excitement over the upcoming release of “Captain America: Brave New World.” Having grown up watching the original Captain America films, I was thrilled to see the introduction of Deadpool and Wolverine into the MCU, but nothing compares to the anticipation building around the return of Steve Rogers.

After the phenomenal success of Deadpool and Wolverine movies, sweeping the box office, it’s confirmed that the 2024 Marvel Cinematic Universe film has been unveiled. This year, fans can look forward to a TV series, Agatha All Along, on Disney Plus. However, the next big-screen Marvel adventure won’t be until Valentine’s Day next year with Captain America: Brave New World.

In the fourth installment of the Captain America series, we find Sam Wilson officially assuming the role of the Star-Spangled Man, following the storyline after “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on Disney Plus. The initial trailer, unveiled a month ago, offers a sneak peek into what lies ahead, such as the debut of Harrison Ford’s character, Red Hulk.

But it sounds like that won’t be the only Hulk appearing in the movie.

Anthony Mackie suggests the Hulk will appear in Captain America: Brave New World

It appears that Bruce Banner, a character known from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), might be reappearing in the movie “Captain America: Brave New World”, according to hints dropped by Anthony Mackie during an interview after San Diego Comic-Con.

In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, the cast were queried about the significance of the 2008 film “The Incredible Hulk” considering its characters and plot points are set to resurface in the 2024 film. Mackie hinted that the movies aren’t tightly linked, but amidst humorous disruptions from co-star Harrison Ford (who might have been subtly trying to prevent spoilers), he seemingly let slip that the Hulk will indeed be part of the upcoming movie.

The events of Hulk and his film don’t pertain to this movie at all. When and if he shows up… Not Red Hulk! The other Hulk! There are multiple Hulks! So, when he shows up… his world, his universe, his story, is completely separate from what… the way we utilize him in our story.

It’s plausible that when the star mentioned “if he shows up,” they could have been talking about the character appearing across various stories within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and not specifically related to the narrative of Brave New World. However, the phrase “the way we utilize him in our story” seems to imply that he may indeed play a role in the upcoming story.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel a sense of intrigue about the possibility of Mark Ruffalo returning as Professor Hulk in an upcoming project. Given his earlier “slip-up” this year when he hinted at being involved in Captain America 4, only for Entertainment Weekly to clarify that he had misunderstood the question, it seems that things may not be as clear-cut as initially thought. Could it be that a Hulk reshoot was carried out to include him in the storyline? Only time will tell!

Regarding his potential part in the story, it appears clear-cut. Given that the Hulk is involved, it’s reasonable to assume he’ll aid Captain America in defeating the Red Hulk. Given President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross’ history with Bruce Banner, it would be quite ironic if they were to clash on screen – a development that has been long anticipated.

Of course, this development has sparked quite a buzz across the internet, with fans debating whether the rumored return of the Hulk might have been inadvertently revealed and speculating about its implications for his character. A glance at social media reveals that audiences are eager to witness a battle between Red Hulk and Hulk – a matchup many had anticipated but now find even more intriguing due to the possibility of it taking place soon.

As a die-hard fan, I was thrilled to see Mark Ruffalo rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in 2022’s “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law,” where I learned about his character, Bruce Banner, having a son named Skaar. The future roles for both characters were ambiguous at that time, but whispers have since hinted at the possibility of the Multiverse Saga delving into a more grounded narrative concerning Bruce’s anger over government efforts to manufacture additional Hulks. This could potentially pave the way for an adaptation of the legendary World War Hulk storyline. If these rumors prove true, it seems like the foundation is being laid in “Captain America: Brave New World.”

Captain America: Brave New World arrives in movie theaters on February 14, 2025.
