Oprah Winfrey takes jab at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for Sussex last name

In a playful manner, Oprah Winfrey subtly poked fun at her fellow residents in Montecito, the royal couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (Duke and Duchess of Sussex), over their surname.

The media tycoon, aged 71, playfully joked about the complex name during his recent interview on Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, which took place four months after Meghan (43) requested that her friend Mindy Kaling refer to her using her last name.

After Kelly inquired if Oprah would be delighted with baby chicks as a present, the seasoned talk show host responded negatively and suggested playfully, “I’d promptly take them to the Sussexes,” though she accidentally elongated the name by appending an excessive number of ‘x’ sounds at the end.

The billionaire then playfully repeated ‘the Sussexes’ once again for good measure.

Later, Oprah recounted a story about assisting a surprised couple in tackling an unexpected issue that had arisen in their backyard.

Oprah resides near the couple in California, and she remembered hastily assisting them during the Easter weekend when they found ducklings in their yard but lacked a proper place for them to nest.

She stated that on the Saturday of Easter, she received a phone call from Prince Harry himself, and he mentioned, with apologies for any inconvenience, “I’m afraid we’re dealing with a duck predicament here,” he said, adopting a British tone.

‘A duck had come into their yard and laid their eggs and had these chicks.’

He said, “What we call a pond here is actually more like a stream. Could we perhaps transfer our ducks to your actual pond instead?

Oprah consented, yet requested that Harry hold off a moment as her good friend Gayle King’s grandkids were due for a visit and wished to observe the event. However, Harry, who is father to Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, along with Meghan, felt it necessary to transfer the animals right away.

She added: “I suggested, ‘Let’s wait until I manage to gather the children to take them to the pond, so they can watch you place the ducks in it.’ To which he replied, ‘We won’t wait; we’ll come immediately, we’re on our way!’

As a die-hard fan, let me tell you, the adorable moment suddenly transformed into utter chaos when that sweet “mama duck” took off running, causing me and my little posse to give hot pursuit! It was hands down the most hilarious spectacle Oprah had ever laid eyes on.

In my own words, I’d say: “Upon opening the door, the mother duck took flight. Meanwhile, the little ducklings were safely contained within a box.

We’re pursuing the mother duck who flew to the other side of our yard. She’s currently there while we have her baby ducks here. Harry is following her, and Meghan has stepped out to chase after the mom, hoping to coax her back towards her young ones.

For approximately thirty minutes, we were chasing ducks inside a container, and we caught it all on camera. It’s hands down the most amusing moment I’ve ever witnessed.

Kelly joked the duck had been very shrewd in choosing a nesting spot.

She laughed: ‘The ducks also hit the jackpot.’

It seems they’re exclaiming something like, ‘From Prince Harry’s home to Oprah’s! Can you believe it?’ As for the duck, it certainly seemed to have a plan when it hatched its eggs.

Meghan had shared a clip of the ducks on her Instagram page over Easter.

She captioned the video: ‘Wishing you a Happy Easter full of love….and surprises!’

Winfrey is a longtime friend of the couple and even attended their 2018 wedding.

Oprah Winfrey carried out her inaugural chat following their relocation to California and resignation from the senior royal roles, which took place in 2021.

In March, I found myself at the center of quite a buzz when I gently corrected my esteemed friend and celebrated actress, Mindy Kaling, during her Netflix cooking show. She had mistakenly referred to me as “Meghan Markle.

Meghan replied: ‘It’s so funny you keep saying Meghan Markle, you know I’m Sussex now.’

As Mindy appeared puzzled, Meghan, having visited Sussex just once, went on: “Even though you have children, you say, ‘I share the same name as them.’

I hadn’t realized how significant it would feel for me, but it carries a great deal of importance when I say, “This is OUR surname. Our humble surname.

After being corrected, Mindy awkwardly responded: ‘Well, now I know and I love it.’

At their 2018 wedding, the recently deceased Queen Elizabeth granted the titles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan.

Ever since that time, the duo has paid a single visit to the county, which occurred approximately seven years ago when they were hosting numerous events.
