Oprah Winfrey is teaming up with dog food company The Farmer’s Dog, sharing her deep love for dogs in the process.
While publicizing her new YouTube series, “Life is Better with Dogs,” 72-year-old media personality Oprah Winfrey shared the lessons she’s learned from her pets. She was recently seen at Paris Fashion Week.
She recently told People magazine that she feels like she’s at her best because her dogs have taught her to live in the moment. Watching them enjoy life fully in the present has been a key lesson for her.
The talk show host also shared that they’ve come to terms with getting older. They’ve realized that even with the challenges that come with age, life can still be wonderful.
And she said when she lost her ‘soul dog’ Luke in 2018, it ‘deepened my spirituality.’
Oh my gosh, Luke… he was just the most incredible creature, truly. I swear, when my time comes, I just know Luke will be waiting for me on the other side. I really believe that with all my heart – he had such a beautiful soul!
Throughout her life, she’s owned and loved 21 dogs, telling the publication that they’ve always been her greatest passion.
Growing up in Milwaukee with her mother, her first pet was Simone, a black cockapoo she bought with money she’d saved from her lunches.
Oprah Winfrey told her mother a made-up story about her gym teacher asking if she could watch her dog while on vacation.
Weeks later, Winfrey falsely claimed her teacher didn’t want the dog returned, explaining that she had thought her mother would grow attached to it.
She really wanted to keep the dog, and even told her mom a story about how it had scared off robbers to convince her.
‘I was going through a lot at that time and he was my one companion,’ she explained.
He was my safe place. I’ve always found comfort in dogs, especially during tough times. He was the one who helped me get through it all.
At fourteen, when she moved to Nashville to live with her father, she took Simone with her, but her father wouldn’t let Simone inside their home.
She recalled that the dog used to sleep beneath the house. She’d often sit on the porch in the evenings just to keep him company.
She always dreamed of having a dog when she grew up, and remembered promising herself she’d get the largest one possible.
At age 20, she moved out and followed through on her word.
The celebrity shared that they adopted an Afghan hound named Kashmir, and since then, they’ve always had a dog in their life.
Oprah Winfrey narrates each four-minute episode of Life is Better with Dogs, a podcast from Oprah Podcast that celebrates the special connection between people and their canine companions.
The series begins with the story of Chad Brown, a US Navy veteran who overcame his PTSD with the help of his Labrador, Axe, who is eleven years old.
