Open Drive redefines mobile racing and driving with eye movement controls, set to launch this Summer
Story Highlights
- Open Drive is an open-world driving game built for accessibility, featuring mobile-friendly eye control support.
- The game includes multiple input options, 4 worlds, 3 vehicles, adjustable gameplay, and more.
- The game auto-detects your input, whether switches, mouse and keyboard, controller, or touchscreen and adjusts controls accordingly.
In the summer of 2025, SpecialEffect is set to release its open-world driving game titled “Open Drive” on both Android and iOS devices. This exciting project has been collaboratively developed with Sun & Moon Studios. The game will be compatible with various accessibility features such as Assistive Touch for iOS users and Switch Access for Android users.
Open Drive will let you drive around using eye control support
Open Drive is an open-world driving game created with inclusivity in focus, including features tailored for mobile devices such as eye control support. With a compatible eye gaze camera, you can navigate your vehicles by merely looking left or right to gather orbs, perform jumps, beat high scores, and discover diverse realms just by gazing.
This development seems to be a significant advancement in accessibility, particularly beneficial for gamers who face physical challenges and find it difficult to use conventional controls. However, it’s important to note that this game isn’t solely dependent on eye-tracking technology. You can also enjoy it by using accessibility switches, keyboard and mouse (MnK), controllers, or even your mobile device’s touchscreen.
You can adjust gameplay speed, and explore the worlds at your own pace
As a gamer, here’s what I love: The game smartly figures out my input device and tailors the controls for me, making it a breeze to jump right in. And if I’m not feeling competitive today, I can tinker with the gameplay speed as I traverse the thrilling Stunt, Speed, Snow, and Meadow worlds, allowing me to explore at my own pace.
Open Drive appears enticing with its all-encompassing design, vast input compatibility, distinct environments, three vehicles – Roadster, Trickster, and Speedster – and customizable gameplay. The creators also aim to transport several of their games to mobile devices, including the space racer EyeDrive, the TD title Badger Badger, as well as additional titles.
This summer, it’s planned that Open Drive will debut on both Android and iOS devices. Currently, it seems the game is already accessible in an early phase on Android through the Google Play Store, but without apparent support for eye control specifically designed for mobile devices.
