As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the recent allegations against Honkai: Star Rail by Onmyoji have left me quite puzzled and amused at the same time.
In the gaming world, there’s been quite a stir surrounding NetEase Games’ role-playing game, Onmyoji, due to allegations that Honkai: Star Rail, a new title by HoYoverse, has copied its content. This stir comes after the release of the Sunday Trailer for Honkai: Star Rail, which some players claim bears striking resemblances to one of Onmyoji’s CGs (Computer Generated Images). These similarities have led many to suspect plagiarism in the case of Honkai: Star Rail.
Recently, Honkai Star Rail unveiled their Sunday Trailer titled “Soloist,” featuring their 5-star limited character known as Sunday. The video garnered positive feedback from fans, but also drew attention for less desirable reasons by some gamers.
Honkai: Star Rail’s new trailer has eerily similar CGs with NetEase Games’ titles
Based on observations made by players, certain sequences in the Honkai: Star Rail trailer seem remarkably alike to story scenes from Onmyoji. This uncanny resemblance was quite surprising and sparked immediate discussion within the gaming community. However, the situation gained more attention when Onmyoji playfully teased HoYoverse about these similarities in a Weibo post.

In a somewhat veiled manner, the official account of Onmyoji subtly expressed concerns regarding a situation without directly mentioning Honkai: Star Rail. The post emphasized Onmyoji’s dedication to maintaining original visuals, world-building, and narrative, and it indirectly urged other companies to prioritize their product’s uniqueness or innovation.
Later on in the thread, the creators shared that their legal squad is digging deep into possible copyright issues. They’re ready to stand their ground and protect their intellectual property if needed. Should any signs of copyright violation surface, they’re geared up to bring the matter to court against HoYoverse.
Furthermore, complicating the situation, certain spectators have additionally highlighted that this dispute isn’t exclusive to Onmyoji, as they’ve spotted resemblances with another game called Identity V, which is developed by NetEase Games as well.

At present, HoYoverse has not released any formal statement. Since the inquiry is still active, it’s uncertain whether NetEase Games will resort to legal action. In the meantime, I’ll provide updates as they come, so feel free to check out the new trailer and see if the similarities align with your observations.
