As a parent who has been through the wringer with my kids and their TV choices, I can confidently say that “Only Murders in the Building” is not for the little ones. However, if your teenager seems to have a knack for understanding the complexities of life, dark humor, and strong language, then by all means, let them give it a try! Just make sure they’ve had their bedtime snacks and are ready for some late-night laughs and mystery-solving.
In just a few days, we’ll be witnessing the debut of a brand new season of the popular Hulu show, “Only Murders in the Building.” Fans are eagerly anticipating jumping back into this series that has consistently offered laughter, suspense, and delightful guest appearances. However, for parents considering whether it’s suitable for their children, here’s some helpful information!
In simpler terms, the TV show titled “Only Murders in the Building” features Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short as an unexpected trio of friends with a shared passion for true crime mysteries. They often gather to solve a few mysteries inspired by their favorite podcasts. However, their peaceful routine is disrupted when a murder occurs within their building itself.
Over the course of this show’s run, we’ve been fortunate to have stars like Paul Rudd, Meryl Streep, Sting, Amy Schumer, Mark Consuelos, Mel Brooks, and many more make special appearances. Each season has consisted of 10 episodes, and the upcoming fourth season is no different. The first episode of season 4, titled “Once Upon a Time in the West,” is scheduled to air on August 27th. One new episode will be released each week until the season concludes on October 29th. As always, these episodes can only be found on Hulu.
Only Murders in the Building is not for young kids, but…
It’s common knowledge that Selena Gomez has a large following, leading many parents to wonder if her new show, “Only Murders in the Building,” is suitable for their children. Regrettably, while the final decision rests with you as a parent, we wouldn’t advise this series for kids. On Disney+, it carries a TV-MA rating, making it intended for mature viewers. However, I’d say teens aged 14 and above might find it enjoyable.
Common Sense Media provides additional information about why the show “Only Murders in the Building” received a TV-MA rating. The series contains strong language and suggestive violence along with dark themes. However, it’s important to note that while there is profanity throughout, the depicted violence does not include graphic images, and the dark elements are often balanced by humor. Consequently, some mature teenagers might be capable of comprehending and following the plot without difficulty. Therefore, while “Only Murders in the Building” may not be suitable for young children, it could potentially be appropriate for older teens. Ultimately, the decision depends on your understanding of your child’s maturity level!
Only Murders in the Building season 4 kicks off on Aug. 27 only on Hulu.
