Only 4 Characters That Could Seriously Hurt Superman in the New Movie
In a departure from what many viewers have been discussing, the upcoming “Superman” film trailers may give off an impression of the Man of Steel appearing weak. However, I believe there are only four significant adversaries that could pose a threat to this hero in the DC Universe movie. The newcomer, David Corenswet’s Superman, will certainly face challenges when he makes his debut on the big screen.
Initially, speculation swirled around Brainiac potentially serving as the villain, but it seems that the primary antagonist of the first film within James Gunn’s DC Universe is none other than Lex Luthor, a longstanding adversary for Clark Kent.
In the upcoming DCU film featuring Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Superman will encounter more than just this main antagonist. Given the numerous adversaries that need multiple heroes to be subdued, James Gunn included the Justice League in the Superman movie cast. One unexpected villain Superman confronts is a kaiju wreaking havoc on Metropolis, but it seems unlikely to pose a fatal threat to him. However, there are four characters glimpsed in the Superman movie trailers who might have the potential to take his life.
Sun-Like Monster
The Superman Movie’s Apparent Final Villain
As a devoted cinephile, I must say that the trailers for most Superman films have been building towards a tense moment between the Man of Steel and Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan, where it appears they are bidding a heartfelt farewell before Clark Kent, portrayed by Corenswet, leaps out of their apartment window to confront an imminent, ominous danger. The antagonist in this scenario is still shrouded in mystery, but from what we can gather, it bears a striking resemblance to the sun and seems to possess immense power. Interestingly enough, Nathan Fillion’s character, Guy Gardner, can be seen battling the menacing creature in the backdrop of the somber scene involving Lois and Clark.
Despite Green Lantern’s valiant attempts to trap the creature using his power-crafted net, it appears the effort may not suffice, necessitating Superman to intervene. Considering the ominous trailers leading up to this climactic scene, the pulsating pink energy the creature emits, and the gloomy ambiance of the Lois and Clark apartment sequence, I have a strong hunch that the sun-like adversary will serve as the film’s ultimate antagonist, making it Superman’s most formidable foe. It is possible that this monster could be Solaris, an intelligent and solar-powered entity from the All-Star Superman comics, which were a source of inspiration for the Superman series.
Ultraman
The Most Likely Main Physical Threat Of The Superman Movie
In James Gunn’s Superman movie, although the sun-like entity resembling DC Comics’ Solaris appears to be the greatest danger, I’m confident that Ultraman will serve as the primary physical adversary for Superman throughout the film. Trailers hint at Ultraman engaging in combat with David Corenswet’s Superman, even joining forces with Rick Flag Sr. and the Engineer to detain the hero. This raises intrigue about his loyalty. As of now, Ultraman’s secret identity remains undisclosed.
In the comic book world, there exists a DC villain known as “Ultraman.” Originating from Earth-3, this character is an evil counterpart of Superman who serves as the head of the Crime Syndicate of America. If the DC Universe adopts a similar concept, Ultraman might share the same powers as Corenswet’s Superman, making him a significant adversary. Some speculate that Ultraman could be a clone of Clark Kent created by Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, thus presenting an alternate version of Superman without the need for multiverse manipulation just yet. To subdue Superman, Ultraman possesses the ability to inflict harm on him.
The Hammer of Boravia
A Character That Connects To An Impotant Superman Movie Plot Point
Similar to Ultraman, the true identity of the Hammer of Boravia remains hidden for now. This character has potential to make a significant impact in Superman, given his direct link to one of the film’s primary plotlines. In the recently released trailer for the new Superman movie, it is hinted that David Corenswet’s Superman became involved in a foreign conflict, which was interpreted as a symbolic move by the U.S. This action places the Man of Steel in a precarious situation, and the Hammer of Boravia plays a crucial role in this storyline.
In a fictional scenario, the countries at odds are Boravia and Jarhanpur. The enraged Hammer of Boravia may feel slighted that Superman intervened when he shouldn’t have, prompting him to pursue Superman in Metropolis, as hinted in the Superman movie previews. What’s intriguing is the strength and mystery surrounding this character. At one point, the Hammer of Boravia exhibits heat vision, sparking speculation about whether characters such as Supergirl, Bizarro, Doomsday, or even Ultraman could be concealed within his massive armor. Given his immense size and powers, the Hammer of Boravia will likely prove difficult to subdue.
Lex Luthor
The Superman Movie’s Main Villain Is The Hero’s Classic Nemesis
To summarize, Nicholas Hoult’s portrayal of Lex Luthor poses another significant danger to David Corenswet’s Superman in the upcoming DCU movie. Although the trailers for the Superman film do not depict Lex directly engaging in combat with the Man of Steel, he is confirmed as the main antagonist. This means he will be orchestrating events from behind the scenes and may very well be responsible for various challenges that Superman encounters. One of the most dangerous threats could be María Gabriela de Faría’s character, the Engineer, who can convert parts of her body into deadly weapons like buzz saws with the aid of nanotechnology. It is plausible that Lex Luthor played a role in developing this technology.
Superman Movie Cast | |
---|---|
Actor | Character |
David Corenswet | Clark Kent/Superman |
Rachel Brosnahan | Lois Lane |
Nicholas Hoult | Lex Luthor |
Skyler Gisondo | Jimmy Olsen |
Terence Rosemore | Otis |
Sara Sampaio | Eve Teschmacher |
Nathan Fillion | Guy Gardner/Green Lantern |
Edi Gathegi | Michael Holt/Mister Terrific |
Isabela Merced | Hawkgirl |
Anthony Carrigan | Rex Mason/Metamorpho |
Maria Gabriela De Faria | Angela Spica/The Engineer |
In the DCU’s Superman film, it’s not just the Engineer who’s working for Lex. Anthony Carrigan’s character, Metamorpho, is another intriguing figure. At some point in the movie, Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman will be imprisoned in a high-tech cell, and it appears that Metamorpho may be using his powers to change into various elements, potentially turning his hand into kryptonite, as a means to weaken Superman. With a woman confined in a cell next to him, I suspect Lex Luthor is coercing Metamorpho to undermine Superman by threatening the woman, who might be Sapphire Stagg, Metamorpho’s love interest from the comics.
In summary, Lex Luthor possesses control over the Engineer, who is a lethal combatant, and has the means to exploit Superman’s vulnerability, kryptonite, via Metamorpho. However, it appears that Luthor’s character in the new “Superman” movie could pose a significant threat to the Man of Steel independently as well. Recent merchandise from the film unveiled Lex Luthor’s warsuit, a piece of equipment straight out of DC Comics. This suit seems designed for Luthor to engage in combat with David Corenswet’s hero within the DCU. Armed with his exceptional intelligence and armored with a powerful suit, Lex Luthor may possess the strength to eliminate Superman.
