One Tree Hill star Bethany Joy Lenz addresses ‘feud’ with former co-star Hilarie Burton
As I delve into the captivating world of One Tree Hill, I find myself utterly enthralled by the lives of its characters and the actors who breathe them to life. Haley James Scott, portrayed by Bethany Joy Lenz, has led an extraordinary life both on-screen and off, making her journey a compelling subject of interest.
Bethany Joy Lenz addressed the rumored feud with her One Tree Hill co-star, Hilarie Burton Morgan.
43-year-old actress openly acknowledged some strange miscommunications recently, but she clarified and set the record straight during her appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast on Wednesday.
‘I love Hilarie,’ Lenz said. ‘I have always and will always and I don’t have any problem with her.’
The artist-composer, who once disclosed her decade-long experience in a cult, also mentioned: ‘I hope we can clear up some strange misconceptions someday, but I still care deeply for that person.’
Back in early this year, spectators observed that Burton Morgan stopped following Lenz on Instagram in March, sparking rumors about a potential disagreement between the previous co-stars.
As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but speculate about rumors suggesting that Burton Morgan felt a pang of discontent over the striking resemblance between Lenz’s book cover and the vintage charm and mystical style reminiscent of her 2023 memoir, Grimoire Girl.
After Lenz’s book announcement earlier this year, Burton Morgan expressed on her Instagram Story, as reported by Page Six, that she doesn’t believe imitation is the greatest form of flattery; instead, she finds it to be irritating.
In the television series One Tree Hill, Burton Morgan portrayed Peyton Sawyer during seasons one through six from 2003 to 2009, while Lenz took on the role of Haley James Scott throughout all nine seasons until the show’s conclusion in 2012.
Approximately ten years after their initial collaboration, Lenz and Burton Morgan teamed up once more in the year 2021 to co-host a Drama Queens revisit podcast alongside their fellow cast member, Sophia Bush.
Last March, I found myself conspicuously missing from a promotional video that my colleagues, Lenz and Bush, created to unveil our new YouTube channel.
Approximately several months past, Burton Morgan disclosed her decision to depart from the podcast. She clarified this move was due to the podcast’s upcoming seventh season, coincidentally being the same time she parted ways with One Tree Hill.
Burton stated during their July podcast that they had concluded their backstage journey on the show. Now, their previous co-star, Robert Buckley, takes over as a guest on the podcast.
On the other hand, it appears that Burton Morgan hasn’t quite left behind his association with One Tree Hill and is participating in the forthcoming Netflix spin-off series instead.
For the next venture, she’ll once again play Peyton Sawyer, while Bush takes on Brooke Davis.
It has not yet been confirmed if Lenz will return to reprise her role.
In August, Lenz expressed her openness to reprising the role of Haley James Scott, but didn’t make a definitive commitment about appearing in the upcoming spin-off.
She expressed her willingness to possibly return to Tree Hill, but she’s uncertain about this specific opportunity since it’s still early in the process. However, she clarified that she isn’t associated with the project whatsoever.
She mentioned that she wasn’t sure if it was part of a trial run or an ongoing series, and she didn’t know its current location.
Lenz is set to unveil a memoir called “Dinner With Vampires,” where she narrates her personal account of being dominated by a powerful minister within The Big House Family for a span of ten years, until she ultimately escaped from the cult.
During the promotional tour for her forthcoming book, Lenz shared insights into her past, revealing that she was part of a cult while filming One Tree Hill. This experience significantly impacted her connections with her fellow cast members.
On Call Her Daddy, Lenz admitted that her relationship with Bush during the filming process was challenging and tense.
She noted that although our approaches to living seemed quite alike, we held differing viewpoints on many aspects, she explained.
She said, “At that moment, I believe she would’ve listened to my viewpoint more readily compared to how I was able to listen myself.
‘But I think fundamentally there was probably a similarity,’ she explained.
On the other hand, Lenz mentioned they hadn’t delved deeply into the subject with Bush yet and pondered over their past experiences.
She said they had spoken about Lenz being distant from the cast during the show’s run.
