One Star Trek: Enterprise actor enjoyed making the series finale
As a long-time Trekkie and someone who has followed Linda Park’s career since her days as Ensign Hoshi Sato, I can certainly relate to her unique perspective on the Star Trek: Enterprise finale. While many fans and even some of the cast members were disappointed with the way the series ended, it seems that Linda found a silver lining in the reunion with her friends from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
If you’re a fan who enjoyed the final episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, it seems you haven’t been too open about your feelings. Generally speaking, fans have strongly disliked the last installment, with even the actors finding it disappointing and even insulting in some ways. However, Linda Park, who portrayed Ensign Hoshi, had a different experience during filming of the series finale. For her, it was like having friends over again since she shared connections with several Star Trek: The Next Generation cast members through either working together or building friendships.
In the finale, it wasn’t the actors who were held accountable; instead, that responsibility fell on Brannon Braga and Rick Berman. This was hard for many of us to accept, as we felt the Enterprise cast were overshadowed by guest stars from The Next Generation. However, despite feeling like an extra in a TNG tale, as she admitted in an interview with Startrek.com [via Slashfilm], Park managed to find positivity in the situation.
Park shared that his crew hadn’t formed close bonds with other casts, except for the “Next Generation” group. This was due to a few factors: Marina Sirtis and I already knew each other from a small film project prior. Michael Dorn and I were friends, and we had the same agent. Brent Spiner had appeared in several episodes, making us laugh with his humor and charm. LeVar Burton directed the show. There was already a connection between our groups even before the final episode, so when they arrived, it felt like old friends dropping by for another visit.
Among Connor Trinneer, who expressed satisfaction with his character Trip Tucker’s ending, Park is one of the few Enterprise cast members who had positive comments about the series finale. Unlike John Billingsley and Travis Montgomery, both of whom felt that the finale should have been longer than an hour, with Montgomery suggesting additional scenes featuring Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis might have improved it.
It’s unfortunate that we won’t have a chance for a redo of the Enterprise finale, but I’ve previously expressed my hope that some of the actors could be given a sort of conclusion on another Star Trek show. Since Phlox and T’Pol would likely be gone by the 24th century, many characters might be deceased. However, it’s possible to find ways to include these characters in a modern series so we can discover their future fates.
