One Piece star Mackenyu (Zoro) says season 2 will be even better than season 1

As a long-time fan of One Piece, hailing from the shores of East Blue and boasting a lifelong love for this swashbuckling saga, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of excitement as season 2 of Netflix’s live-action series sets sail. With my eyes glued to the horizon, eagerly awaiting the adventures that lie ahead, I find myself reminiscing on the thrilling escapades we witnessed in season 1. Mackenyu, our fearless Roronoa Zoro, has shared his optimism for a season even more spectacular than its predecessor, and with his prowess in swordsmanship and action sequences, I’m confident that we’ll be in for one heck of a ride!

The journey of the Straw Hat pirate group is moving forward in South Africa, as the team responsible for Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece are diligently filming season 2. This series is based on the famous and enduring manga by Eiichiro Oda, which revolves around a motley crew of pirates under the command of a resilient young man named Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy). The goal of this band of buccaneers is to find the legendary treasure known as One Piece and become the ruler of all pirates. Adaptations from manga and anime don’t always fare well, but the first season of One Piece was a unique success that satisfied fans, fresh viewers, and critics alike.

Netflix swiftly renewed the popular series, and filming for season 2 commenced in early July. With over two months dedicated to production so far, the cast is beginning to get a sense of what the overall season might look like – and it seems promising! Mackenyu, who portrays the dashing swordsman Roronoa Zoro, recently hosted an Instagram live session answering fan questions about season 2. Overall, he appeared quite optimistic about the direction things are taking. Unfortunately, the original video has vanished, but ComicBook.com’s Megan Peters jotted down some of Mackenyu’s most fascinating comments.

Peters states that Mackenyu anticipates the upcoming season to surpass the first one’s quality, particularly highlighting the action sequences. Given that the initial season boasted some truly spectacular fight scenes, many of which starred Mackenyu, this is particularly intriguing. Moreover, Mackenyu has enlisted a group of stunt performers from the Rurouni Kenshin films to work on this production, ensuring not only experienced personnel but also individuals who have collaborated successfully in the past to create breathtaking, awe-inspiring sword fights.

One Piece season 2 will feature Loguetown, Drum Island and more!

In the upcoming season 2, we have some key locations and characters revealed, thanks to an entertaining teaser trailer released by Eiichiro Oda at the end of August. This season map encompasses story arcs such as Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island. If these terms are unfamiliar to you, it might be beneficial to explore the manga or anime adaptation, both of which are available on Netflix!

For the thrilling reveal of their new locations, Netflix unveiled an impressive lineup of actors joining the cast. Among them are Katey Segal portraying Dr. Kureha, Mark Harelik as Dr. Hiriluk, Brendan Sean Murray as Brogy, Callum Kerr as Smoker, Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5, Clive Russell as Crocus, Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9, David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine, Julia Rehwald as Tashigi, Rob Colletti as Wapol, Ty Keogh as Dalton, and Werner Coetser as Dorry. Buckle up for a full roster in season 2 of One Piece!

Absolutely, it will take some time before we can watch One Piece Season 2 and form our own opinions about its outcome. The first season aired in August of 2023; it’s likely that we won’t see the second season until mid-2025 at the earliest. However, given how impressive the first season was, I’m eager to follow the Straw Hats wherever their journey takes them.
