One Piece season 2 adds The Conners star in major role
As a dedicated One Piece fan with a soft spot for exceptional casting choices, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment when Jamie Lee Curtis had to step down from playing Dr Kureha due to scheduling conflicts. However, life has a funny way of working out, and it turns out that the universe had another amazing actress in store for us – none other than Katey Sagal!
One Piece has found its Dr Kureha in Katey Sagal, who is officially replacing Jamie Lee Curtis.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the talented actor known for his roles in both the Conners and Sons of Anarchy series will be joining the cast of our beloved Netflix live-action show for its second season. He’ll be stepping into the role of the quirky doctor who forms an alliance with the Straw Hat Pirates. Additionally, Mark Harelik, recognized from The Morning Show, has also been announced to take on the character of Dr Hiriluk in this exciting new chapter.
In September 2023, Curtis initially put forward Sagal as a contender for the role that Dr. Kureha previously held. Later on, it was confirmed that Sagal would indeed assume this role.
Regardless of her being a fan of “One Piece” and the showrunner stating that the character was written for Curtis, the latter’s busy schedule as a star in “Halloween” prevented him from participating.
Ultimately, I had to decline the opportunity because of scheduling issues. Becky Clements, president of Tomorrow Studios (the company behind Netflix’s One Piece), shared her thoughts on the casting announcement.
Curtis expressed her affection for the series to Deadline, but unfortunately, she’s got numerous movies and television projects in pre-production, causing a clash with our filming schedule.
She was eager to carry out the task, however, with priority deals on her plate, things became rather intricate.
Clements assured the fans that they had discovered an exceptional individual for the role of Dr Kureha, who turned out to be Sagal. This actor has been seen in shows such as “Dead to Me,” “Tell Me Lies,” and “Rebel,” a TV series inspired by Erin Brockovich’s life.
Regarding Curtis, she was unable to participate in One Piece due to some prior engagements, one of which being the highly anticipated sequel to Freaky Friday, titled Freakier Friday. In this movie, her former co-star Lindsay Lohan reprises her role from the 2003 film.
As a devoted One Piece fan, I’m thrilled that you can catch up with me on my adventures in the first season, now streaming on Netflix. Unfortunately, I don’t have any news about when we’ll set sail together again in season two, but keep an eye out for updates!
