Great news for anime fans! Netflix has released the first official details about its live-action remake of One Piece, the popular series. The show is being made by the same studio that created Spy x Family and the initial seasons of Attack on Titan.
The official One Piece store is now selling two new illustrations. These artworks feature scenes from the beginning of the story, when Monkey D. Luffy first sets out to become a pirate in the East Blue Saga. The release of these illustrations, tied to the One Piece remake, hints that a new announcement will be made at Jump Festa 2026, happening December 20-21, 2025.
A new anime version of One Piece is coming to Netflix. Based on Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga, this remake from Wit Studio will focus on the beginning of the Straw Hat Pirates’ journey. While Toei Animation is currently producing an ongoing One Piece anime, this new series will have a fresh, updated visual style while staying true to Oda’s original artwork.
From the very beginning, the team behind One Piece cautioned that this new project was still quite distant and would take a significant amount of time to finish. It wasn’t until almost a year later, at One Piece Day ’24, that they finally shared details and concept art with fans.
The upcoming Netflix anime remake of One Piece will be directed by Masashi Koizuka, known for his work on Attack on Titan. Hideaki Abe (Jujutsu Kaisen) will serve as assistant director, and Taku Kishimoto (Haikyu!!) is handling the series composition. Kyoji Asano (Spy x Family) is the character designer and chief animation director, working alongside Takatoshi Honda (The First Slam Dunk). Ken Imaizumi (Boruto) and Shuhei Fukuda (Call of the Night) will be responsible for the action animation.
Early concept art from Wit Studio suggested the new anime adaptation of One Piece would be a more accurate portrayal of the original manga, showing even the more intense scenes that were softened in Toei’s version. However, director Koizuka explained that they intend to create their own unique interpretation instead of simply recreating the manga panel-for-panel. He believes One Piece gives them the freedom to experiment, and that the enthusiastic team is eager to take on that challenge.
