One of the hottest franchises of the decade just dealt its first major loss of the year.
According to Shonen Jump News on Twitter, the latest manga sales rankings from Oricon are out, and they cover the first six months of 2026.
I was really surprised to see that One Piece wasn’t number one this time! Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End took the top spot, selling 1.618 million copies, just ahead of One Piece which sold 1.598 million.
One Piece’s 2026 Manga Journey Has Been Unbeatable, Until Now
Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga has been consistently popular this year. In March, it outsold other well-known series like Jujutsu Kaisen. The first two weeks of sales for One Piece Volume 114 reached an impressive 612,629 copies.
Although sales of One Piece Volume 114 slowed down after its initial release, it continued to sell well for several weeks. Considering the many new One Piece products and volumes that came out this year, it’s quite surprising that Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has now become the best-selling manga, surpassing Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece.
I’ve been watching the continued success of One Piece, and it’s been fantastic. Beyond the regular new manga releases, the franchise is getting amazing reactions from both critics and fans. Recently, new episodes of the anime finally premiered, and they’re adapting the Elbaf Arc, which fans have been eagerly waiting to see animated for a long time.
It’s no surprise that Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has become incredibly popular this year, and it’s likely to stay that way. With Season 2 of the anime having just finished airing two months ago, fans are already excited for Season 3.
The third season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End will cover the Golden Land Arc from the manga, and it’s expected to be the most emotionally challenging part of the story so far.
Good news for fans – they won’t have to wait much longer to return to the world of the fantasy series they love. I’m glad to see a quick return is planned!
