One Piece confirms new cast members and teases Chopper with behind-the-scenes videos for season 2

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that this week has been nothing short of a dream come true for me. From the moment I heard about Geeked Week at Netflix, I knew it was going to be something special. And boy, was I right!

This week has been absolutely exhilarating for me as a fan! Netflix’s Geeked Week didn’t disappoint – they’ve been unveiling some fantastic surprises! The long-awaited second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender is now in production and has just cast Toph. The anticipation for Squid Game season 2 is building with a new teaser! Black Mirror has revealed its impressive lineup of stars for the seventh season, and Arcane season 2 finally has a release date! It’s like news is raining everywhere I turn.

In essence, some rumors about this news had been circulating earlier, but now they have been confirmed officially. The news pertains to “One Piece,” Netflix’s popular pirate fantasy series inspired by the long-running manga by Eiichiro Oda. Yesterday, we shared speculation that Joe Manganiello (“True Blood”) and Lera Abova (“Anna”) might be joining the show for its second season following an untimely leak from a Netflix employee. However, it’s now been made clear that these castings are indeed official! Catch showrunner Matt Owens discussing Manganiello’s casting during Geeked Week:

And here’s Lera Abova taking the stage:

Well, here I was, all geared up and ready to roll! Manganiello and Abova weren’t the only fresh faces in the One Piece universe that Geeked Week unveiled. Netflix dropped a sneak peek behind the curtains, where Iñaki Godoy (our Monkey D. Luffy) treated us with a table read from season 2! Strangely enough, that video seems to have disappeared from Netflix’s social media feed, but a quick search online will lead you to it.

What makes the table read video particularly thrilling is that it offers us our initial sneak peek at Tony Tonberry Chopper, a small reindeer character who’s set to embark on adventures with the Straw Hat crew in season 2. You might recognize Chopper from the Drum Island arc of the manga and anime, which is expected to play a significant role in the live-action show’s second season. Fortunately, even though the BTS video seems to have vanished mysteriously, the internet has ensured that the glimpse of Chopper will remain accessible forever.

We’ll be seeing plenty more of the little fella in One Piece season 2!

And even that’s not all. Let’s end with a set visit curated by Jeff Ward, who plays the psychotic villain Buggy the Clown. Ward will be back next season and so will Buggy. Check it out:

The second season of “One Piece” is being made right now in South Africa. It’s likely that we’ll start seeing it on our television screens around the year 2025.
