It’s rare for a horror movie sequel to live up to the original, but Zombieland: Double Tap actually pulled it off. Many franchises stumble with follow-up films – even critically acclaimed 28 Days Later didn’t quite succeed with 28 Weeks Later, and films like World War Z are still waiting for a continuation. But Zombieland managed to recapture the magic of the first movie with its sequel, and it’s now available on a new streaming service.
You can now watch Zombieland: Double Tap on Prime Video! The popular sequel became available on January 1, 2026. Released in 2019, it brought back the original cast – Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin – and added some new faces like Zoey Deutch, Rosario Dawson, Luke Wilson, and Bill Murray. It arrived ten years after the first Zombieland movie hit theaters.
In the first Zombieland movie, a group of four survivors journeyed to what they believed was a safe haven: the Pacific Playland theme park. Although that didn’t work out as planned, they all managed to survive together for ten years, as shown in Double Tap. Now, in the sequel, the team faces a new threat: zombies that are smarter and more evolved, and they’re forced to search for one of their own who has gone missing. Here’s the official story:
After leaving Washington D.C., zombie hunters Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Little Rock set out on a road trip to Graceland in Memphis. During their journey, they meet other fighters and a community of survivors. But they’ll need all their skills and weapons to survive, as they face a new breed of zombies – faster, smarter, and incredibly tough.
Will ‘Zombieland’ Become a Trilogy?

Sony Pictures Releasing
Most sequels released years after the original don’t do well, but Zombieland: Double Tap was a pleasant surprise. Critics gave it a 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences loved it even more, with an 88% score. The film earned $122 million globally on a $42 million budget, making it a profitable venture for Sony Pictures. Fans clearly still enjoy the Zombieland series and are hoping for another installment.

Good news for fans of Zombieland! Director Ruben Fleischer recently hinted that a third movie might actually happen. While promoting Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, he said he’s hoping to start working on Zombieland 3 around 2029. The original Zombieland came out in 2009, followed by the second film in 2019, and the cast jokingly suggested a third installment in another ten years. Although Sony Pictures hasn’t officially announced the sequel yet, this is the first update fans have received, offering a glimmer of hope for the future of the franchise.
