One of Freida McFadden’s most popular novels is being adapted for Netflix

As an enthusiastic fan, I’m thrilled to share that according to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix is joining forces with Shawn Levy’s production banner, 21 Laps Entertainment, to bring the captivating novel “Never Lie” to life! This exciting collaboration is a part of Netflix’s first-look feature deal, implying that this adaptation is most likely going to be a movie rather than a series. I can hardly wait to see how they transform this compelling story onto the silver screen!
On GoodReads, McFadden’s most well-read book aside from “The Housemaid” and “The Housemaid’s Secret,” is “Never Lie.” Over 693,000 users have added it to their shelves since its release in 2022.
The story, titled “Never Lie,” primarily unfolds within the old mansion of the esteemed psychiatrist Dr. Adrienne Hale, who vanished four years prior to the narrative’s start. Married couple Tricia and Ethan consider the house an ideal match for them, yet find themselves ensnared within it during a heavy snowstorm.
When Tricia found herself in a predicament, she started exploring for something to pass the time and accidentally discovered Dr. Hale’s hidden room filled with vintage cassette tapes from his therapy sessions with patients. As she listened to the recordings, she gradually pieced together the chilling incidents that ultimately led to the doctor’s mysterious disappearance.
After finishing “Never Lie”, I can understand why this book was selected for adaptation. However, I must admit that I felt a bit let down by the twist (which I won’t reveal here). But if the Netflix project manages to steer in a different direction and craft an engaging script, it could be much more fulfilling to witness the story unfold on the screen instead.
21 Laps Production Company has teamed up with Netflix for various productions, with the standout collaboration being the hit series “Stranger Things,” now filming its last and fifth season.
In addition, the company has taken up Anthony Doerr’s novel “All The Light We Cannot See” and transformed it for their streaming platform. They are also working on Lionsgate’s upcoming survival horror movie titled “Never Let Go”, directed by Alexandre Aja and featuring Halle Berry. Initially slated for a September 27 release, the film was previously set to debut on that date (which was formerly held by “Saw XI”), but has now been pushed back by Lionsgate to 2025.
Currently, Levy is on cloud nine due to the overwhelming success of his blockbuster superhero film titled “Deadpool & Wolverine“. This Marvel production is now showing in theaters and looks set to surpass the $1 billion threshold very shortly.
