One of 2024’s best British movies is now available to watch at home

As a seasoned gamer of both movies and life, I must say that “Timestalker” has been one of the most intriguing journeys I’ve embarked upon this year. Having traversed the digital landscapes of Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store, and other digital retailers, I found myself drawn into a historical sci-fi rom-com that defied all expectations.

If you didn’t get a chance to see it at the theater, here’s an opportunity for you to watch one of the top British films of the year.

The horror-comedy film “Timestalker,” helmed by and featuring Alice Lowe, can be purchased or rented on Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store, and various other digital vendors in the United Kingdom.

This historical romance-sci-fi blend tells the tale of Agnes (played by Lowe), deeply smitten and fixated on the questionable preacher, Alex (portrayed by Aneurin Barnard), in 1688 – a time when his imminent execution is at hand.

In the course of Timestalker ‘s time-traveling adventures, spanning the 1790s countryside England and bustling 1980s Manhattan, Agnes repeatedly feels an attraction towards each era’s Alex. Yet, are they meant to be together, or is this Alex perhaps more of a jerk?

This production features Jacob Anderson, Tanya Reynolds, Nick Frost, and Kate Dickie alongside Timestalker. Similar to the roles played by Lowe and Barnard, viewers will encounter various iterations of these characters, as Agnes experiences repeated reincarnations throughout the storyline.

The film, initially receiving a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and maintaining an impressive 88% rating, represents Lowe’s second stint as both writer and director. This follows his exceptional 2016 slasher movie, “Prevenge”, which is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Discussing “Timestalker” prior to its recent cinema debut, Lowe shared her thoughts on why taking on both the lead role and direction wasn’t quite as daunting an endeavor.

She mused, “It seems more efficient since I don’t need to verbally communicate my intentions to others – I simply act. The other performers observe me acting, and then they follow suit.

I find relief in not needing to explain a specific aspect of the process because I often think, ‘What a hassle it would be to explain this!’ Sometimes, I can have difficulty explaining it myself. Lately, I’ve come to understand that much of my work relies on trust without full understanding.

You can now purchase or rent Timestalker on Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store, and several other platforms in the United Kingdom.
