One MCU star is making the jump to Star Trek and you should be excited
As a longtime Trekkie with memories of the original series etched deep into my memory banks, I must say I’m thrilled about the greenlight for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’s second season. The roster of talent joining this crew is nothing short of breathtaking, and I can hardly contain my excitement.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has been confirmed for another season by Paramount+. This decision might have been made to save expenses, considering the high interest in the show. Greenlighting a series for a second season so early in its development is unusual, but it can be done for one of two reasons: A) The show is performing exceptionally well, or B) It’s more cost-effective to fund a subpar show for two seasons instead of canceling it after one and investing in an entirely new production.
Despite our reservations, we have a growing feeling it will turn out well, given the continuous stream of impressive additions to the cast. Holly Hunter is already on board as the main character, and she’s joined by Paul Giamatti in a significant role. Furthermore, notable actors such as Tig Notaro, Oded Fehr, and Robert Picardo have returned, adding more anticipation to the mix. With a youthful ensemble supporting these seasoned performers, there’s a buzz around the show’s promise, with us among those eagerly awaiting its release.
In an exciting turn of events, Star Trek has secured another big name, this time from the Marvel Universe. Previously known for her stellar performance in the popular sci-fi series, Tatiana Maslany, is set to join the cast for season two, though the details of her role remain a mystery. Regardless, we’re eagerly anticipating what she brings to the table.
Although audiences may fondly recall her performance in the critically acclaimed sci-fi show Orphan Black, Maslany has another credit on her resume that might give fans pause: She-Hulk. The series, unfortunately, was not well-received and many viewers disliked it because it tried to be both overly dramatic and too lighthearted at the same time, creating an inconsistent vibe that didn’t connect with audiences.
Although she delivered a strong performance, the writing and direction of the show were terribly poor, resulting in its demise and no further seasons being produced. However, this does not imply that Maslany is a subpar actress; quite the contrary. Her skills as an actress, evident in Orphan Black, are far from questionable.
Her addition is a good one, as she’ll (hopefully) have better writing and direction than she did on shows like She-Hulk.
