Louis Tomlinson has opened up about the ‘challenges’ of becoming a father at the age of just 24. 

Louis Tomlinson, age 33, has a son named Freddie with his former partner, Briana Jungwirth, who is also 33. Freddie was born in 2016, after a short-term relationship between his parents.

Louis has been talking about the challenges of raising his nine-year-old son while also managing his career and public life.

In a conversation with Steven Bartlett on The Diary Of A CEO podcast, he shared that he was only 24 when he became a father, but felt very sure of himself and confident he’d be a good dad. He described his child as incredibly sweet and kind, and expressed immense pride.

I’m hitting my thirties, and yeah, I’ve noticed a few grey hairs starting to show! But honestly, picking my son up from school? It makes me feel like a young, energetic dad again, and I’ll admit, it’s a nice little boost to my confidence.

The singer, formerly of the popular group One Direction, shared that he struggles to spend enough time with his son because he divides his time between Los Angeles and the UK.

He went on to say that a long-standing difficulty with Freddie was discussing his own life, especially his experiences with fame.

If we’re out somewhere like Target and someone asks for a picture, I usually say yes – probably about 80% of the time. It just feels inevitable sometimes!

I absolutely cherish my time with Freddie, and I don’t get nearly enough of it as it is with all my touring and work in the UK. Because of that, I always refuse to take pictures – it’s a definite no every time.

After it happened a second time, I realized he might see me as unpleasant, and I was actually the one insisting he be nice, which felt strange.

The singer of “Story Of My Life” remembered a time he picked up Freddie from school during a karaoke session, and the teacher unintentionally made Freddie feel awkward.

Usually, when I collect Freddie from school, I’m just a regular dad. But one time, I happened to be there when they were having karaoke!

Honestly, it was a bit awkward. My teacher just asked me, right in front of the whole class – and Freddie and his friends, too – to sing. I really didn’t want to, so I had to politely say no. It wasn’t my favorite moment, that’s for sure!

I couldn’t believe my eyes last October! Freddie looked *exactly* like Harry Styles in a sweet family TikTok – it was a rare glimpse of him, and the resemblance was uncanny. I immediately thought of One Direction when I saw him!

Eight-year-old Freddie was spotted having fun in Los Angeles with his aunties, Phoebe and Daisy Tomlinson, who are twins and sisters to Louis.

Fans were amazed by how much Freddie has grown up, and many noticed how much he now resembles his brother, Louis.

Daisy filmed a video of their outing with Phoebe and her baby, Olive, to get frozen yogurt.

In the video, Daisy explained that she, Phoe, Freddie, and Rach went to Pinkberry because they were all craving a treat. She decided, ‘Let’s go!’ and they headed over.

Fans in the comments section noticed how much Freddie has grown and pointed out his similar mannerisms and appearance to Louis, with many calling him Louis’s twin or a mini version of him.

Louis Tomlinson’s sister, Lottie, recently posted a video on Instagram showing her son, Lucky, having fun with Freddie in the pool while they were on vacation earlier this month.

Louis stated in the interview that the passing of his former bandmate, Liam Payne, has effectively ended any possibility of a One Direction reunion.

As a huge fan, it broke my heart to hear the singer talk about his friend’s wish for a One Direction reunion. Apparently, his friend was really pushing for it, but now, after Liam’s devastating loss, he feels like it just wouldn’t feel right to bring the band back together. It’s so understandable, and honestly, it feels like the right decision, given everything.

In October 2024, 31-year-old Liam died after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina. Tests later showed he had alcohol, cocaine, and a prescribed antidepressant in his system.

Liam and Louis rose to prominence with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik after appearing on The X Factor in 2010 as members of the band One Direction.

Louis said: ‘Never say never, right, but I’m just not sure it would be right to him [Liam].

Let’s just imagine, in about 25 years, if they offered us a huge amount of money – like the band Oasis might – and asked us to do a lot of shows, what would we do?

‘I don’t know. It’s just completely put a pin in all of that.

It’s funny, actually – no one wanted One Direction to reunite more than Liam. I was a pretty close second, though!

Now, only three people truly understand what I’ve gone through in my career.

One Direction became incredibly famous after competing on the X Factor in 2010, and they’ve since sold over 70 million records around the world.

The group has received incredible recognition, earning nearly 200 awards throughout their career. These include seven Brit Awards, four MTV Music Awards, six Billboard Music Awards, seven American Music Awards, and an impressive 28 Kids’ Choice Awards.
