If you used to enjoy (or still do) the British boy band One Direction, recent news has been disheartening. This is particularly true concerning the passing of Liam Payne, who tragically died after a fall from a balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2024.
Although that unfortunate reality remains, fans may find some comfort in 2026. Netflix has revealed that a travel show starring One Direction members Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik is expected to be available for streaming around 2026. However, an exact release date hasn’t been confirmed yet.
The show’s plot centers around a road trip across the United States featuring Tomlinson and Malik. Given that Malik owns a home in Pennsylvania, the series might begin there and then head west. Currently, fans haven’t received any additional details regarding the journey.
Netflix announces travel docuseries featuring two One Direction members
The two former One Direction members will be sharing their thoughts on the passing of Liam Payne, specifically how they responded to the news. Given that this is a multi-part series, it’s likely they’ll cover a wide range of topics, even those not directly connected to the band.
Essentially, rather than gaining deep understanding of the conflicts within One Direction and what made the band so popular, the documentary will focus more on the perspectives and opinions of Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik.
Along with Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Niall Horan completed the group. However, Styles and Horan aren’t anticipated to be featured in the upcoming Netflix documentary. This will likely result in a rather unbalanced portrayal of the group’s story, and fans of Styles and Horan, as well as the other members, are expected to voice their concerns.
Nicola Marsh will direct the docuseries. She has a background in documentary filmmaking, particularly within the music genre. Marsh previously directed the documentary about Demi Lovato, Child Star.
During the 2010s, One Direction sold more than 70 million records and achieved over 20 billion streams. The upcoming Netflix documentary featuring Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik will undoubtedly attract fans, but it’s also likely to receive some criticism. And that’s probably exactly what Netflix is hoping for.
