On ‘Sister Wives,’ Kody, Janelle, Meri and more reveal how they took news of Garrison’s death
News of son Garrison Brown’s suicide blindsided the core cast of “Sister Wives.”
On last Sunday’s episode of TLC’s reality show, I was part of a heartbreaking journey as father Kody Brown, his wife Robyn, and the women who once shared a life with him – Meri, Janelle, and Christine – revealed their personal experiences learning about Garrison’s passing.

Kody and Meri Brown from the TLC show ‘Sister Wives’ announced their separation, with Meri being the latest among the three wives to part ways from their polygamous family.
As I settled down on the sofa, ready to discuss my birthday, the cameras zeroed in on me. “Hmm, Kody’s calling,” I remarked, glancing at my phone, the man who used to be referred to as my spouse until January 2023.
The team member inquired, ‘Shall we grab it?’ She responded, ‘No thanks,’ explaining, ‘He can message me instead if there’s anything I need to attend to.’
“He’s calling again,” she said later, appearing annoyed. “I already texted him.”
Later, she exclaimed, “He mentioned it’s an urgent matter.” The team halted production, and she picked up the phone. “What is it?” she inquired. Suddenly, the screen transformed into text: “On March 5, 2024, Kody and Janelle’s son, Garrison, tragically passed away.

‘Janelle Brown, a cast member from the show ‘Sister Wives’, revealed that her son Garrison had been sending concerning text messages prior to what appears to be his suicide. This led her to ask someone to check up on him.’
As a cinephile, I’d rephrase it like this: When I was just 25, I – one among the 18 siblings from our family – met an untimely end. It was my younger brother Gabriel who discovered me, as shared by my sister Meri.
Last March, the police informed The Times that it’s with deep regret they can verify that Mr. Robert Garrison Brown was found dead at his home, presumably due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to Garrison’s roommates and his brother, Gabriel, the authorities were informed that Garrison was dealing with alcohol addiction and potential psychological concerns. However, Gabriel mentioned that his brother had recently taken up a position at a healthcare center, appearing to be in good spirits.
Later in the show, Meri expressed it was an incredibly strange, almost unreal moment, something like ‘This can’t be happening, not to one of our children, they wouldn’t do this,’ she said. And I was taken aback, thinking ‘You’ve got to be joking!’ but he replied, ‘No.’

Garrison Brown, the child of reality TV personalities Janelle and Kody Brown from ‘Sister Wives’, was mourned and buried following his tragic passing due to what appears to have been suicide last week.
In the room where she was working, Robin, who recently became a part of the formerly multi-spoused group as one of Kody’s legally wedded wives, expressed that her husband appeared “noticeably surprised” upon entering the space.
Robyn was attempting to understand the situation, to offer support, and to process her own shock,” she explained. “However, he simply couldn’t hold it together.
Meanwhile, Christine stated that she “tumbled down” following an unusual phone call from her son Hunter, who shares a biological mother with him named Janelle.
She stated, ‘Garrison took his own life.’ Upon hearing this, I collapsed to the floor right in the office. It was common knowledge among us that he had been feeling quite down,” she continued, but then hesitated, adding, “and we all wished… well, he might have somehow…” before falling quiet.
Biological mom Janelle shed tears throughout her testimony.
Gabriel located him,” she explained. “He told me, ‘Mom, he’s missing.’ I asked, ‘Where did he go?’ He replied, ‘He’s no longer here. He took his own life.’
Janelle explained that she couldn’t recall the following moments, yet through her tears, she shared, “I climbed into the vehicle and proceeded to drive.
In 2010, Garrison made an appearance during the first season of the “Sister Wives” reality show, which documents the ups and downs of a polygamist family led by Kody. The series has depicted the family’s life in Lehi, Utah, Las Vegas, and Flagstaff over time. Janelle, Meri, and Christine have ended their marital ties with Kody, while Robyn continues to be his legal spouse. Although multiple marriages are not legally valid in the U.S., Kody refers to his relationships with the women as “spiritual partnerships.

In her own words, Fantasia Barrino discusses ‘The Color Purple’, battling personal struggles, and surviving an attempted suicide. After leaving the hospital, she vowed, “I will never attempt that again; I have a reason to live.
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, allow me to rephrase the given passage in the first person:
Before my demise, I penned a message to a circle of individuals whom I’ve collaborated with through my family endeavors, expressing, “I yearn to resent you for sharing the joyful moments. Yet, I am unable. I long for those days.” As per a police report, this revelation stirred Janelle to correspond with me, given our strained relationship with dad Kody. We exchanged a brief exchange that unexpectedly came to an end.
Janelle wrote on Instagram, ‘He was a shining light in everyone’s life.’ His absence has left an enormous void in ours that feels like we can hardly breathe.
Kody had just that kind of visceral reaction, he said in Sunday’s episode.

Unraveling the circumstances surrounding someone’s demise might not change the outcome, but gaining this insight could pave the way for a safer future for others.
The first time I truly felt the depth of my sorrow was when I sat with my daughter, Gwendlyn, holding her hand. In my mind, I traced a path from my thoughts to my chest, through my esophagus, and into my lungs. It was there that I found this overwhelming sense of grief welling up within me. The room fell quiet as Gwendolyn wept and Robyn attempted to comfort her. Overwhelmed, I let out a cry that echoed the sorrow coursing through me.
That’s when it truly hit me that this predicament has deteriorated beyond repair, and I feel utterly perplexed about how to proceed. I’m at a loss.
