Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe embroiled in 2024’s most bizarre feud as he clashes with Married At First Sight star on-air
As a dedicated follower of reality TV, I must admit that this clash between Ian Thorpe and Cyrell Paule on The Amazing Race was quite a spectacle. Having watched Ian compete in various swimming competitions throughout my life, it’s fascinating to see him navigate through the challenges of a different kind on this show.
During the climactic episode of The Amazing Race on Sunday, the situation between former Olympian Ian Thorpe and reality star Cyrell Paule from Married At First Sight escalated to a heated confrontation.
The heated encounter came after Cyrell, 35, overheard Thorpe’s teammate Christian Miranda complain that she was ‘following’ them during a challenge.
Paula, affectionately known as “Hurricane Cyrell” for her passionate demeanor, challenged her friends to find out if they had been discussing her behind her back.
Did you seem to be making a jibe at us, Christian, earlier about us following you? Cyrell and her partner Eden Dally inquired, to which Christian replied that he wasn’t aware of what they were referring to.
In response, an angry Cyrell stated, “What I’m referring to is your smart-aleck behavior.
Ian and his buddy subsequently tried to deescalate the situation by reminding their angry colleague, “We’re not on Married at First Sight,” and urged her to avoid making personal attacks.
However, this only enraged Cyrell even more, who told them: ‘Yeah, and you ain’t swimming right now either. Christaian, you’re known as Ian Thorpe’s friend.
“As his friend, you might not hold significant authority; it could be wise to remain silent when you lack knowledge or understanding.
Later, Thorpe expressed to the camera that he aimed to limit conflicts while appearing on the program, allowing him to concentrate on the tasks ahead.
‘If I’m competing in something, I’m focused on how I can deliver the best result. I can block people out.
‘It’s rubbish,’ Ian said.
Luckily for me, I no longer need to navigate any potential conflicts between Ian and the couple formed by Cyrell and Eden on the show, as they were both sent packing during that very episode of The Amazing Race.
Ian and his longtime buddy Christian are vying for the youth mental health service ReachOut Australia on the celebrity version of the Channel Ten’s reality show.
They continue to compete alongside stars like Peter Helliar, Jett Kenny, Billy Brownless, and more for a total prize of $100,000, which will be donated to the winning contestant’s preferred charity.
